well, now we have a winter mix going on.

just what I need, a winter mix, its a real fine mix, have to look hard to see it now since its so dark out.weather report says wont be no accumalations which I hope they right with the weather this time.I just dont need no ice out there to slip and fall again.I fell yesterday on the front step, and have not figured out yet what happened, but,I took quite a tumble and fell into the fence and there was a pc of rusty fence wire sticking out a little on the corner of the fence that got jammed in my hand and I have a really sore hand that I have been putting peroxide on every couple hrs,and its better today then it was yesterday.I had went out to get the paper and was coming back in, and stapped up on the porch and next thing I knew i was flying through the air into the fence. A FREAK ACCIDENT, but dont need a repeat and slip on ice.

Have a nice day,

jean

Hi Jean, Please read up on using peroxide on cuts. I use it too, but only to clean the wound the first time. Then I switch to an antibiotic cream after soap and warm water. We have had many trips to the ER with cuts and such over the last few years and they have started saying that using the peroxide for too long can actually stop the wound from healing because it kills the good stuff that helps the healing as well as the bad stuff. I usually use it anytime I see any sign of infection too. As long as the wound is healing with infection I use just the antibiotic cream.

So,if your Dr says it's ok, then that's great. If not, please do a search to see what you can find out. I hope you aren't offended, just wanted to pass this along as general info. Oh yes, rusty wire is the biggest carrier or tetnious(sp/) so if you haven't had a shot recently, now would be a good time to get one.

Blessings to you and yours, Mona

Jean, I'm so glad you weren't hurt worse. I worry about falls so much now that I'm getting a bit older. Sigh. A porch or deck can be deceiving, especially when it is such a fine mix as you describe. We only had rain here, but a lot of it.
A pharmacist told me the same Mona says about peroxide. It is great stuff early on to prevent infection, but can stop the healing process.

So glad you did not break anything, that would really be terrible. But, you just beware of the cut. Not only is there the threat of tetanus (lockjaw) but now there are those nasty staph infections. Take good care of yourself, might want to get a tetanus shot. Since we live in the country with a lot of rusty sharp stuff on the property, we need to get those shots, too. Avedon

    Jean,
I am so sorry about the fall. Soaking the hand in some very warm water might do it some good. I also agree about too much peroxide. If you haven't had a tetanus shot in the last 10 years, you should get one too. The antibiotic cream Moan mentioned would be a good idea. Take care,
    kay

We are expecting a wintry mix here too today. If the temps drop like they are predicting it means ice forming on the trees and of course, power outages.

Hope you feel better. I agree with Avedon and Kay. Get a tetanus shot if you haven't had one.

Jean, take extra care and see a doctor about that cut. Hopefully it will warm up there and no more ice.

Thaank you all for caring and telling me things to do, which I had already done.I had a tetnus shot 3 years ago when I fell and broke my wrist.Mona, I did not take no offense of what tou told me.I have never heard to not use peroxide after a wound is cleaned, but, cant hear everything I guess. And I did not use it any more after that, and I couldn't find my antibiotic cream so I put a bandaid with antibiotic in it,and today My hand is almost healed. Its so much better now, its still a little bit sore, but not like it was.I will be fine now.I am so happy I have such great friends here on the forum.Thank you all.

We had rain, really hard rain, overnight but it is nice and bright and sunny come morning. Jean, I am really glad that your hand is all on the mend again.

    Hi Jean,

I'm so sorry to hear about your fall, but really glad to know that you haven't broken any bones or even worse. Happy to know you are on the mend now.

nancy, in ky, thank you,I am much better tonight. my hand is hardly sore now, seems like it just healed over night, which I am very grateful for, as it was very sore, that pc of wire almost went through my hand, and it DID hurt bad for a while.

RITA, we had some sunshine here today, too which I was happy to see. It had been cloudy for a week, but was very nice today, just a little chilly out.

nancy. Thank you,I am happy I didnt break any bones too.I have fallen a number of times since I was on that high dose of colesterol drugs that time,. the side effects of that stuff effects the muscles, and makes them hurt so bad,and some times the muscles just give outand wont hold the body up.i think thats what happened this time too, I fell in the yard before, but this time I fell on cement and some cinder blocks, so I WAS lucky nothing broke.

    Have a nice day,
    Jean
