Sure you can. Just take care to not cook it so long that it begins to jell. ;)

We make ours by simmering a 1 lb. bag of cranberries in a gallon of apple juice till the berries split and turn soft. Then stir well, strain out the berries (sweetened to taste they can be jarred as jam), bottle and process the juice. Taste the juice before jarring as you may wanted to add some sugar or honey to sweeten it depending on the apples used.

Oh sheesh. I didn't even *think* of cooking the cranberries right in the apple juice. I'll need to make more apple juice either way so I can make that, then take some and add cranberries... good, thanks!

And, I never thought about MAKING cran-apple juice! Thanks Ann for sparking yet another product I can make from the bushels of apples I bought. And, thanks Dave for telling us HOW.

Nancy, now I'm thinking of other combinations. I have frozen raspberries, why not rasp-apple juice? I'm thinking I need to head to the grocery store and see what combination juices they have because I think a lot of them have apple as the base.

I'm finding the apple juice a bit of a pain to make, with lower yield than I'd like (although my second batch was better) but we do drink a lot of fruit juice so this is a worth-the-effort endeavor for me.

And yes, thanks Dave. I can't believe I didn't think to just put the cranberries in the apple juice. I'm still shaking my head about that.

Glad to help. See there are some advantages to being really old like me - uhhh - make that "around along time". Less other demands and so more time to think of things. ;)

PS: Apple-Cran-Raspberry, Apple-Cran-Grape, and Apple-Cran-Strawberry are good too. We tried making Cran-Pink Grapefruit once but it was way to puckery for us.
