Back w/ Update on new Hoyas from new laptop

HI folks,

Well bear (bare?) w/ me & the typing, no mouse, suffering thru learning the trackpad, just uploaded my first pix to the laptop. Have posted several pix to other forum, took a while & only see how to do individuals (w/out using a Photobucket type host).

Anyway, most of the new Hoyas are doing well, 1 loss & now one is ailing. I found it very dehydrated. Have unpotted it, cut off a bit of stem to green growth & am soaking it in room temp water.

Let's try a pic

I seem to have to come do this 1 by 1, huh?

I thought to trim the end & soak the cutting earlier today & when I didn't see any difference later in the day, I cut off a bit more stem. Is this a reasonable remedy?

Err, can you explain what it is you are doing? It looks a little confusing.

PG do not give up on the hoya it may one day just plump up on you! This has happened to me. As far as the laptop hang in there and all I can say is the trackpad wears the tip of my index finger off. ~ Mary

Thx EMT, is this how you brought yours back, by cutting & soaking?

    HI GL,

I'd potted up the plant, more than a month ago, but it appears not to be taking up liquid. So, I unpotted it, saw roots at the bottom of the stem & cut some of them off, cutting back the a bit of the bottom stem end to green growth, in btwn some of the roots (still left some).

Am trying to get it to drink & plump up. Today, while it doesn't look better, it does feel firmer when I hold the cutting in my hand.

Yes PG. S/H may be the way to go with the root ball already on it. For air flow on the thin tiny roots and moisture but not drowning in it. And lots of patience! Good luck! ~ Mary

I gave up on those treckpads on laptops, it was a real pain, literally. Get a USB mouse and it all becomes easy again. I think you can get wireless ones as well. Trackpads were someones idea of a joke.

If it were mine, I'd cut off the top section and root that second node separately, as a fail safe. Good luck!

Nice to have you back. I like trackpads, although they do get quite annoyed if you moisturize your hands before using them...

Hi, would cut the top off like suggested though I thought that I also would add that high humidity & bottom heat would likely help. I use lights and enclosed cases. I have a H. aff. finlaysonii that has just "sat" since August and just recently began rooting and behaved about the same as yours.

    Good luck, Robert
