Excelsior/Mojave/Lovely Girl?

Does anyone here grow any of the above Orientals? I thought somewhere I read that Lovely Girl wasn't a very good lily, but I can't find the posting. I am considering the 20 bulbs (5 each) of Dizzy/Arena/Mojave & Excelsior for $32.00 at Johnscheepers.com. Any thoughts? Phyl

I like Arena and Mojave very much. I find Dizzy .. well dizzing (wonder why ??). Excelsior, I have not grown myself, but it looks very nice. I think the price sounds great and the source is also highly recommended.. just hope you get the cultivars you are looking for because they sometimes do not ship bulbs which are true to name. Quality of the lily bulbs are usually very high, however.

Thanks Kenneth....whenever you post something, I always listen. I think I may jump on the deal right now before it's gone or the snow flies. They also have lilium spec. rubrum for a great price. Wish I had gotten Black Beauty before it had sold out. :0) Phyl

My lovely girls never grew but I got them from a not so reputable seller- I think the picutures of them are amazing though! Mojave is a good grower for me, I love Dizzy and I have been drooling over excelsior.

    Good luck!

    Hi Phyl,
Speciosum Rubrum is a late blooming lily (Aug-Sept). It also blooms a week or two earlier in sunny spots than shadier spots. With your short summer you might want to plant them in a sunny spot so you can enjoy them before it gets too cold. I don't know where in Central NY you are located, but my father and his whole side of the family are from the Syracuse/Cazenovia area. There have been years when the leaves started to turn in the late half of AUGUST! Luckily my mom's family is from Baltimore and that's where I've settled. Heck around here we're still using air conditioning AT NIGHT in August. :)

Daisy head maisy-I'm sorry yours didn't survive...don't you hate that? :0(
Helen, yes, I have almost all my lilies in full sun. That's a great suggestion-thanks! I know, we're jealous of our daughter's move to sunny California! Phyl

Mojave is great even in Alaska. Hardy and pretty too. Dizzy is ok.
