Everyone here will tell you to keep your floor color consistent. All I will say is I had dark laminate floors in a previous home, and I will NEVER do it again. If you like the constant look of dust, dirt and uncleanliness, if you enjoy sweeping, vacuuming and mopping at least once a day, then get the darker floors! They show everything! And if natural light happens to hit them, you will wonder when was the last time you swept!!!

Well I guess I shouldn't have said dark. We had really dark in one room and learned that dusty lesson. This is the actual colour floor. My concern is really will it look odd having lighter stairs up and that colour down. Designers have told me too add area carpet to landing to blend the shades.

I agree, it is a good idea to add an area rug in the transition area. Makes perfect sense.

Noelle, as Bobbi said you might consider adding an area rug in the transition area. You might also consider using the same stair runner on both sets of stairs. That will tie them together as well, and hide most of the difference in the wood.
