All of these gloriously gorgeous hostas and here I am beating my Kodak for giving me an E-35 camera error (focusing malfunction?. Just went to take one of my fab looking Whirlwind and E-35.

I need to start dropping dollars into a plastic jar for a new cam.

I guess I'll have to settle for jello-shots on this one.

    Cheers everybody. Slurp!

I forgot one. Before all of you jump all over me to tell me this isn't Summer Fragrance take a peak at the other leaves, particularly the one tagged as typical, which means the other leaves all look like that one. This is a mutated leaf: the only one on the plant. It would be great if next spring I found I had a sporting eye and that all the leaves took on the rounder and more deeply variegated coloring. I think it is striking.

Hey, I'm looking. Very good too.
Out of the latest arrivals here I think I have one not yet uploaded to Flickr of a leaf shot. Green Mountain Hosta had a hard season but these plants just received were really fine looking. They were filled with tiny conifer needles, so probably they mulched with pine needles to cut the exposure and dessication. I'll keep that in mind because our pine needles are huge compared to these tiny things.

Not in the same calss as the beautiful specimens shown on this thread, but...here are some I took this morning.

    Sagae

Since I am not a contender, how about a poll on the best shot?

Jon, too many for me to choose...my head is spinning as it is, and the whole thread, every post including yours, shows well cared for and loved plants. So. I cannot look beyond the hosta to judge on the shots.

Mocassin, Blue Ivory is on my wish list anyway, but the shot by Karen is really professional looking. Others are spectacular, but that shot stands out to me among so many great pictures.

    Jon

Special mention to Phil for Queen of the Seas with the water droplets...what could be more appropriate.

I wish I knew how to, en-mass, email all the posters who, with better cams and skills, responded to this post, but do not, so, feeling the need to express appreciation, thanks for all the great pics and inspiration!

Ma Breeder is fabulous, great photo.

HH, we all got something out of this one. Wish I could hold steady enough to take the shots of the quality I see here.
    Beautiful.

I've been listening to words describe some hosta, but it was the one picture, worth a THOUSAND words, which convinced me to get Wide Brim. It mesmerized me! As well, the center variegation of Ma Breeder is superb, don't think I saw one with such fingers of color, and then the quilting over it. Never heard of that one before. Thanks for showing us (me) something really NEW.

Just stumbled across this thread and am so awestruck by the photos just had to bump it. Mctavish, NOW I see why you're so particular about photos. Your photos on this thread are so stunning it almost hurts my eyes to behold them. EVERYONE'S photos are fantastic, really.

Hope another thread just like this one is created this summer.

    Oh, Donna, great photo!

    Leafwatcher, you had me lol'ing.

Mocc, that photo reminds me of bats roosting.

    Okay, here's SEDUCER

    hostahillbilly thanked hostatakeover swMO
  • 10 years ago

Hostatakeover, the proportions on the photo are all wrong. Houzz is squeezing it into a shape which changes the whole look. The photo is wider than it is tall, much more than that shown. It is one of my most favorite artistic efforts because of the unexpected colors and wiggles. Too bad. I could not get the Flickr photo to appear, so I gave it from my computer. I may just have that one blown up and framed. Very unexpected look for a hosta leaf.

Always admire a Seducer leaf, HTO.

Mocc, when I hold my mouse over your photo it then appears rectangular. Sorry, hope you didn't take offense with the bat reference....the photo is an unusual snapshot, appearing almost like a black-and-white (to me) and reminded me of the bats I've seen in our bat houses in late afternoon on hot summer days. They move to the edge of the openings to cool off in the late afternoon heat while still trying to remain submerged in the shadows.

    Your photo is eye-catching.

Personally, I think we need a Hosta Alphabet LEAF Thread along with the regular Hosta Alphabet thread!

    Here is Brim Cup.

    and another Cerveza shot.

I am not finding the photos to be that clear on Houzz.

This is kind of a leaf shot. Look at it on Chris's forum and then look at it here. Click on it on both sites to make it large. (It's a firefly, by the way.)

    Wonderful photos, still going strong.
However, when I think of "doing shots", cannot help it, I think of tequila, salt and a twist of lime. Oooh boy, that makes my taste buds jump. With a bacon salad on the side.

Jo, I love your Fingerprint. I ordered Tattoo from PDN to be delivered this year.

Hostatakeover, that Alliteration is a new one for me. I would be afraid it had HVX. Is that how it is supposed to look?

I think I'm going to have to get June now.... I can see why everyone loves it so much. It's quite unique.

Presently I have June, English Sunrise, and Teatime (my "Three Graces") as my screensaver. I would love to see that Stained Glass or Ghost Spirit as a screensaver.

Michaela, great choice to get yourself a June! It still is THE #1 most popular hosta if I'm not mistaken. She might even become your favourite, who knows? ;-)

The "default" pictures shown on online hosta nurseries did not have me interested & kind of curious as to why it was the #1 most popular... once I saw photos from all of you it made sense!
