Sisters plant sale

A few years ago, people here were talking about a sisters plant sale in, I think, Reading or North Reading. It was a one-time thing each year done by several women. Do they still do that? Does anyone know when and where it is? Is it worth it? Thanks.

they do still do it, i'm afraid you missed it, it was last weekend.

its wonderful and worth it. their website is sisterplants.com; you should get yourself on the mailing list for next year.

It is most definitely worth it, but you really have to get there within the first hour of the sale, or a lot of the really good stuff will be gone. I got there at about 9 a.m. last Saturday, and some of the plants I wanted were nowhere to be seen. I still got some great stuff, though.

Here's a link to their page, where you can get on their mailing list.

I don't know what you're looking for, but Bluestone Perennials is having a 50% off sale. Their sale is definitely worth it, too.

Here is a link that might be useful: Sister Plant Sale

Thanks for that info and I will definitely get on the list. I'd be looking for more unusual things--but also some common things as replacements, which seems to an inevitable part of my perennial garden.

Bluestone is great. Years ago I bought a lot from them. But I have a mature garden and their plants are of a size that would be devoured by my existing plants. So I'd have to grow the Bluestone plants in a nursery bed for a year before they could duke it out in my perennial garden. Don't have time to nurse much along anymore--a few things but not a lot. But Bluestone is great and there's areason they have stayed in business so long.

Ginny, Most of the stuff at the Sister Plant Sale is the same size, if not smaller, than what you get at Bluestone. So you'd have to grow anything you got at the Sister Plant sale in a nursery bed too.

And I went to the Bluestone half price sale specifically to get stuff like Thalictrum aquilegifolium and Aruncus dioicus, which were on the Sister list, but were gone before I got there. I don't know what you're looking for that is unusual, but I think I'm correct in saying you won't find anything at Sister that you can't get at Bluestone.

That website is A-mazing. I thought it was just a group of neighbors dividing their own plants but it doesn't sound like it. Very impressive and professional. I will have to go just to check it out next year.

I am grateful that you described the size of the plants, Dawiff. Not sure that is for me unless it is something rare or unusual. Right now I am nursing along two Hosta 'Tom Schmid', which I got thru mail-order from the Midwest last summer. The extra "remembering", watering and other required care unfortunately take more time than I have these days.

Garden club plant sales often have good-sized divisions, tho not too many unusual plants. I will have to be more diligent in attending these.

I went to the Sister's sale this year and I think Bluestone and even Green Mountain Transplants is a much better deal. I won't bother going next year.
