Thanks for a successful CT plant swap!

Thanks so much  once again  to Ron and Youngs for a wonderful swap. Your generosity is very much appreciated! Thank you also to the swappers for all of your plants "shares". Once again we had beautiful weather  albeit a bit (!) on the chilly side. It was so nice to see everyone  and add a few more faces to the online screen names.

Just want to second the HUGE thanks for Ron and Young's -- it was a beautiful day ("breezy" but beautiful blue skies!) and a great time was had by all! (That sandwich was a winner, too, Ron!! Thought it would feed about 50 people but we seem to have demolished it in about 15 minutes!) As usual, I came home with at least 5 times as much as I took -- and still have half of it to plant, but I am THRILLED to have it all and looking forward to seeing the garden grow... thank all of you who brought such terrific stuff!!

Here's a link to some photos from a wonderful day! Thanks again Ron and Young's -- and all you great swappers!

    Ron, and Everyone -

Thanks again for such a great swap!! We really had a great time, enjoyed the food, plants, and company.

For those of you who got some of those bagged White Flower Farm siberian irises: I grabbbed a care sheet from one of the cardboard boxes yesterday. On that, it had information on the varieties included:

"In this box you'll find 4 plastic bags, each of which contains 3 bare root plants (12 plants total). The bags are closed with colored ties. The colors of the ties correspond to the coded list of varieties found on the outside of the box. You have received the varieties described below:

Iris sibirica 'Butter and Sugar' Height 26 -36 in, spacing 18-24in apart
Bright butter yellow falls with white standards. Morgan-Wood award winner. Blooms in midseason.

    I. s. 'Gull's Wing' Height 34-38 in, spacing 18-24in apart
Large, semi ruffled white blooms. Some Siberian Iris aficianados rate 'Gull's Wing' as the best of the white-flowered varieties.

I.s. 'Pale Blue' Height 38 -48in, spacing: 18-24 in apart
Sky blue flowers on tall stems. Blooms in early summer.

I.s. 'Shirley Pope' Height 30 -34in, spacing 18-24 in apart
Large, rich, velvety dark blue. Recipient of the Morgan-Wood medal, the highest award bestowed upon the Siberian Iris"

OK, so did anyone grab one of those iris boxes?? The tie on our bag is colored magenta/burgundy.

Thanks again for a great swap everybody!!!!!

Magenta/burgundy??? I didn't see one of those! I recall the following: yellow tape was Butter & Sugar; light blue tape was (duh) Pale Blue; white tape was Gull's Wings; and dark blue tape was Shirley Pope.

BUT... I will add that I took a quick look at one of the boxes to double check something, and I remember seeing another variety on that box. Perhaps there were different varieties in different boxes? Bill, I think you got a magenta/burgundy iris from one box, but the instructions from another box.

Anyway, I wanted to add my thanks to Ron and Young's once again for hosting us. As usual, a fun time was had by all! Even though I was a very good girl and came home with just a few things to add to my pot ghetto, I always have so much fun seeing everyone and talking plants.

    Thanks everyone!
    :)

Yes, Ron, thanks to you and Youngs for another great swap. And thanks for the ride to check out the fields.

I had a great time and picked up many new plants for the garden. It was nice "meeting" those of you I didn't meet at the last swap. I came away with some great plants and advice as well.

I still didn't spend my gift certificate from last year's swap, but I'm heading to Ridgefield tomorrow so maybe I'll cruise by the Wilton location.

Marty, did you get something fabulous with your gift certificate?

Thank you Ron & Young's, and all you generous swappers! It's great to spend time with people who are as generous with their time and advice as they are with their plants! Thank you everyone for all the little lovelies--and especially for the mystery tree donation! I've got just the spot (ha!). What a wonderful, unexpected gift!
Thank you for sharing your expertise and extras with my visiting friends--I hope those of you who got the pretty eggs enjoy them!
Dee--thanks for the wintersowing encouragement. I've got my fingers crossed!

Amy, I was thinking earlier today of our conversation at the swap, and I really don't feel like I offered any concrete advice! But I do hope you are not discouraged - you just gotta go with the flow, and make sure you try again next year with any failures you might have this year. It really is a great way to garden!

I noticed my face is a bit red today after yesterday, and I'm trying to figure out if it's sunburn or windburn, lol!

Thanks Ron and everyone! Although I couldn't participate in the plant part of the swap this time I enjoyed the company and food as usual.

    Thanks Ron !

It was good to see familiar and new faces. Thanks for the plants and the food.

Dee--knowing that it's a lot of trial and error, that sometimes you get 1000 sunflowers but only one hollyhock (when you got 300 last year) was encouraging! Of course I read this on the winter sowing forum, but seeing all your little baby sunflowers in person made it all seem more real somehow! I will soldier (if not yet solder-too scary for clutzy me!) on! A

As usual, I had a great time. I always look forward to our swaps. I love talking to other "plant" people. Sadly, I was away for awhile buying shrubs for my new front landscaping project and couldn't talk to as many people as I wanted to.

Thanks Ron for again making our swap so successful. It has really grown since we've been at Youngs. It's great to have new gardeners. I hope everyone enjoys the plants I brought because I know that I love the plants I get from everyone. My yard is full of them. I'm already thinking about what I can bring to our fall swap.

Sue, I'm so glad you joined us; since you were recovering and had to drive a distance to get to Youngs. With or without your great plants, you're company is special at the swap.

I wanted to add my thanks to Ron and Youngs for a wonderful plant swap! The food was delicious and great plants were swapped. We enjoyed seeing everyone again.

Just wanted to post this photo of our wonderful raffle "prize" -- a beautiful Andromeda (Pieris x japonica 'Mountain Fire') We had one, needed another, so winning the raffle was the perfect chance to get it! Like all of Young's nursery stock, it's a gorgeous bush, covered with new growth. Looks fabulous among the hostas and Japanese painted ferns by the front door!

Thanks again to Ron and Young's (and all you swappers, too)!!

Thanks Ron, & Young's, for everything! I thought the sandwich idea worked out great. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to thank you directly- too busy having fun, I guess! I still have plants to get in the ground, things have been rather busy and I still seem to get tired so easily.

    Thanks to everyone!

And, hey, I thought that slaw was great. I'm not sure who brought it, but would you be willing to share the recipe?

Thanks so much for an amazing swap.. It was really great to meet all of you and all the plants I got seem to be thriving. Looking foward to doing it again.

    Thanks Ron and Young's!
