Happy March and Good Riddance to February

How did we get through the whole first day of March without someone saying "Hey, it's March! Spring is almost here!" OK, there, I said it.

Happy March. I hope it comes it like a lion and brings us warmer weather and no more snow.

Spring arrives on March 20th, and let's just hope the weather gets the memo and lets us warm up and have spring on time.

Here in southcentral OK we are seeing more signs of spring and a slight warming trend. At least this week our precipitation is falling as rain instead of snow or sleet.

So, Happy March! Happy Sunshiney Day!

And, to all you transplanted former Texans like me who are Okies by choice, but remain Texans by birth....Happy Texas Independance Day.

    Hi Dawn,

Happy Sunshiney Day to you! It is wonderful but chilly here. We spring forward @ 2:00 a.m. March 14. I can surely use the extra daylight!

We spent a few hours digging Bermuda today. It definitely wasn't fun, but I'm really glad that it was sunny enough to do it. It looks like it's going to be pretty nice all week here. We need it!

Laura, I forgot that is is almost time to spring forward. More good news! Hmmmmm.....I wonder how each of us will spend our extra hour of daylight?

Cindy, I am so envious. We had over an inch of rain yesterday, so our dirt is mud/mudpuddles but I am eagerly awaiting its drying-up so I can play in the dirt too.

Megan, Digging bermuda is about my absolute least favorite gardening chore ever, but at least you're getting rid of it and can plant something better in its place! Any day you can get rid of some bermuda is a good day. No, make that a GREAT day.

Today I saw daffodils blooming and an adult roadrunner chasing a sulphur butterfly....and quite a lot of birds migrating north. A couple of nights ago, we not only had the spring peepers peeping, but the regular frogs were croaking as well--just a huge chorus of little croaks and big croaks and all kinds of in-between sounds. That was one of the nights when the temps stayed in the 50s, which it hasn't the last few nights. Do we even dare hope that spring is making its way to us slowly, step by step, inch by inch?

In our yard, chickweed is blooming but no henbit is in bloom here yet. I did see lots of dandelions blooming, but they were on the Texas side of the river.

The wind sure made it chilly and we'll still be really cold down here tonight....in the 20s, which is below normal, but our days are warming up nicely all week long.

Also, I noticed another sign of spring today while inside a Barnes & Noble bookstore. Can y'all guess what it was? Gardening books. Tons and tons of gardening books, and a very heavy emphasis on edible gardening with a couple of shelves of books about growing veggies, herbs and fruit.

At this point, we'll take all the signs of spring we can find.

I thought I"d try to run the tiller over the area where I'm going to plant onions and potatoes so it would dry a little quicker. It was actually dry enough to plant right now. I think I'll get the potatoes and onions in the ground this weekend!

I am almost certain I saw a mockingbird in the garage this evening! What does that mean? Maybe that is common for March 2.

As unpleasant as the February weather was this year, at least it was great for the 2010 tree crops. I wouldn't mind a couple more weeks with highs in the 40/50s and lows around 30 to keep things dormant a bit longer.
