What did you get this year that you ended up liking the most of y

Mine would definitely be Goodness Gracious. Beautiful plant, even though it's not close to being mature yet. It's starting to go dormant now, but is still pretty! I got it from Hallson's.

Deanna

P.S. Glad no one will remember that I posted last spring that I wasn't getting any new hostas this year. Egg on face!

It was supposed to end with "your new acquisitions?"

I second that with Goodness Gracious. The other that I really liked was Golden Meadows. Both still really look good and this is their first year. Midnight at the Oasis also has done really well and still looks good.

Lakeside Shore Master, Earth Angel, June, and Whirlwind. I added sinfully to my hosta gardens this year and cannot wait for next spring. Stay warm and keep the hostas cool! Go Gators. Paula

Since I got about 130 new plants this year, I can play this game.

    Cathedral Windows.

    Dick Ward

    Formal Attire

    Lakeside Symphony

    Mississippi Delta

I also really liked Alligator Shoes, Spring Fling, Frank Lloyd Wright and Moon Split.

My favorite this year is Alligator Shoes. Of the 40 I bought this year, my eye was always drawn to this one.

Steve, the Dick Ward has to be one of my favorites here too. I think tonight is the death knell for it though. No picture. But the sheer vigor of Sum & Substance appeals to me as well.

Hmmm... hard one, we got over 350 new hostas this year. Most of them formed nice size clumps for first year hostas. Some of them that stand out were Royal Tapestry, American Sweeheart, Orange Marmalade, Georgia Sweetheart, I could go on and on.

But, my two favorites weren't the nicest looking ones or the biggest clumps, just plain green ones. But, they were the ones that were the hardest to find and will bring back memories of our hosta hunting trips for years to come.

I got Nancy Gill at Cory's Wildflower Gardens in Chillicothe, Ohio (380) miles. Everytime I look at this one, I think of my son walking up and down the hills with Mr. Cory.

We picked up Great Plains at Wade & Gatton in Bellville, Ohio (315 miles). We'll think of the tour Van Wade gave us in his golf cart everytime we see this one in our gardens:

    I have to categorize:
*Most stunning leaves - Sweet Innocence/Liberty
*Most impressive growth for a young plant - Fried Green Tomatoes
*Best yellow - Blaze of Glory

and my winner is Sweet Innocence.
But I am certain if we have a sequel asked in May 2012 my list would change.

Wow, that Flemish Gold and L. Cindy Cee are beauties!

One that I got this summer and really like is Midnight Oil...a small to medium size hosta with very dark green, puckered and cupped leaves.

    Midnight Oil

Here's a link wich may be helpful: Midnight Oil

I also got this unnamed Stegeman seedling which has very shiny, extremely thick leaves...it just glows... I call it Indiana Treasure, because the Stegemans are in Indiana and this plant is a seedling of One Man's Treasure.

I also got some Heartthrob Violets, which are an attractive companion for medium size hostas.

Don, your pictures didn't come through.

Don, I can't see your pictures either.

Uk-hostaman, WOWZA on that Lakeside Cindy Cee!!! Putting that one on my gotta have list for sure!

Hmmm.....my pics were on there...but they disappeared. Have never had a problem before. Well, I'll try to post the direct link to the pics again:

The Gardenweb website isn't reading the percent (%) sign which is in the URL address, right after the word "Hostas".

Don, bring the picture up in photobucket and copy the HTML link into the body of your post.

I liked Emerald Ruff Cut and Lakeside Prophecy, look forward to see them again next year, pictures in Hosta Library. I am also eager to see again Key West and Jurassic Park, and there is that streaked green Sum & Substance (Vim & Vigor) sport.

Yeh Gesila, that's what I do....and it shows up in the preview, but then disappears when I post it. I type the following:

Steve, what did you do to get my pics to post okay???

Don, have you changed your privacy settings in photobucket? I tried to load one of your images from above and it said I lack permission.

    Paul

Don, in Photobucket select the HTML code to put into your message, NOT the one that starts with IMG code. Don't type that other stuff. I just typed in " img code la la la, and I got a red x too. Try just pasting what gets copied and don't you add any other words, and see if it works.

    Hi Paul,

No, I've never changed my privacy settings. I think you'll get the message, "lack permission", when you try to access the URL address of the pics unless you're the one who has the User Name and Password. :)

Babka, thanks for the advice. I'll give it a try...

Here is the Stegeman hosta with the very shiny, thick leaves (a seedling of One Man's Treasure. I've named it 'Indiana Treasure':

Here is the Heartthrob Violet, a nice companion for medium-size hostas:

This year I added some green hosta (not something I do often). My favorite green additions:

I really liked the fat, rippled leaves of Lakeside Old Smokey with white backs:

Blue Monday has beautiful heart shaped leave that look like a green version of Moon Lily (one of my favorite golds):

They don't look like much yet, however I'm already looking forward to next year as both plants had a number of eyes.

I also liked Sara's Sensation and am looking forward to the very wide margins as it matures. It also handles a lot of sun well:

All of these may not look like much now, just wait!

    Don,

I really like the Viola Heartthrob as a companion plant. Where did you get it from? I would have told you about the settings, but I've been without power since the 30th.

    Steve

    Steve,

I think Don got Viola Heartthrob at the same place I got mine, Romence Gardens in Portage, Michigan. They make wonderful companion plants for hostas. I have mine in much more sun than Don does his.

    Don,

Midnight Oil - WOW! Very striking!

Looks like everyone got some beauties this year - thanks for sharing pics!
