NH Fall Plant Swap:final plans /information

I'm abandoning the other post as it was getting too long.

So here is the final information!!

The Plant Swap will definitely be held Sunday, Sept. 27th at 10 am.

All are welcome. Bring as few or as many plants as you wish.

I just ask that you sign up here or email me to tell me that you will be coming and how many people you may be bringing with you. I need to know this so that I can make room for cars, plan enough soup, and figure out contingency plans if it should rain. ( Do I need to clean out the whole barn and breezeway?)

Many people list here what they are bringing and what they are looking for so that they can set up some trades ahead of time.

I strongly recommend this if you are looking for something special or have something special to trade.

I will set aside a place for these trades to take place before the general swap so that they don't get mixed up with the general swap. Please label these with your name, the name of the plant and who it is to go to.

We do have coffee and goodies to start and a lunch afterward for any who wish to stay and chat. You are welcome to contribute to the food table if you wish.

For those of you who are new and want more specific information and directions please email me directly by going to MY Page.

    Hi Annie

There will be two of us coming

    Blake

    Hi Annie,

Beth and I will be coming.

Would you like a heuchera Mocha to add to your garden?

    Lisa

I may not be able to make it at 10:00. If I can't rearrange plans, will coming at 12:00 be too late? Let me know.

I'll be bringing just myself. So far I'll be bringing plantings of

    purple Siberian iris
historic lilac and pale yellow bearded iris
yellow spring daylily (like a Lemon lily)
Here's a picture of a crab spider on the yellow daylily--doesn't show much but it's the only picture I have.

And, I do have a white Siberian iris that bloomed later than the spring purple iris. If somebody says they want it I can bring a clump of that.
    4 small variegated hosta
    "normal" green hosta

    Food will be decided later.

    Hi Deanna
We usually are done swapping by noon but you would be in time for lunch. If you made your swaps ahead of time you and your swapper could transact the swap when you arrived.
    Annie.

    Good Morning!

Annie, I would love a division of the fall anemone, they are so pretty! I asked earlier in the thread if you would like a coral bells plant, I have silver scrolls and mocha. I wanted to offer them to you as the hostess first!

    Lisa

    Lisa:
Ill put you down for an anemone. These will be small plants as the big ones do not transplant well in the fall.I also have the blue cardinal flowers for you. I found some that have new growth plants at the bottom of the stem that I think will do better than the ones I gave you last year.I also will put aside a spring white daisy for you. Would you like a white fever few as well?
I would like to try your mocha coral bells and your chocolate joe pye weed
    . Blake:
I have you down for white daisy and white phlox. Would you like white fever few as well?

Deanna: If you come( and I hope you will) I would love a red dahlia and a yellow day lily if you can find something of mine that you would like.

    Hello Annie;
I would love some of the fall anemone. Can I please?
    diene

    Hello All;
I am back, Blake stopped by today and dropped off some echinecea for me. She also brought some lemon squares and now I can recommend two things for her to bring.
I have to get my act together but so far I have a few burning bush saplings
    ornamental cherry tree saplings
    purple siberian irises
    many assorted daylilies

I expect to have more stuff but that is what I know I am bringing so far. See you next week.

    Hello All,

The past few days have been perfect gardening weather here in Maine. I hope it continues like this bt cool air seems to be approaching quickly
Annie, thank you for thinking of me for the white feverfew but I do have a whole garden of it so I won't be needing any more. But it is a beautiful plant and the flowers are so long lasting.
Deanna, do please let me know if you will be at the swap, as I have put several plants aside for you.

    Diene
You may have an anemone. I would like a day lily from you. I am partial to yellow but any will do.

I've rearranged things so I'll be there at 10:00. Keep those things placed aside, blaketaylore, and thank you!

If I bring lentil soup would that be good? Let me know if you prefer something else like deserts.

    Annie;
I am sure I can figure out a nice yellow for you, let me take a look at my pictures and pick a nice one. I have some beauties. Thanks.

    Hi Annie,

Sheila and I will be there on Sunday-maybe one more with sister.
I have the things already promised and I've been digging up lots of thyme-(variegated lemon and elfin). White goose-necked loosestrife-lemon balm-and some monarda(red and merlot)
I'll keep looking around and keep you posted. Annie, what would you like us to bring for food? Main dish, salad, dessert?
    Marsha

Marsha- I'd love some Merlot BB. Is there anything else on my list that I can set aside for you?

Consolidated from last post. Names listed are only for my reference. If I have enough, I can certainly bring more clumps of things):

    Pink Malva
Iris Tubers- Tall Bearded, Dwarfs, Short Bearded
Milkweed- Common (Blake, Lisa, and...Annie did you want this, or were you just commenting on the other thread?)
    Coreopsis- the bigger one
    Shasta Becky- (Lisa)
    Siberian Iris- purple, butter/sugar
    Coleus Cuttings
Yarrow- A dark pink one and a white one
    Daylilies (Blake)
    Hyssop
Monarda- Raspberry Wine, Marshall's Delight, and a purple one
    Strawberries
    Solidaster Lemore
    Ruds
    Knautia
    Valerian
    Foxglove- the perennial yellow one
Sedum- A. Joy, and Matrona (All matrona available is currently claimed- Lisa & Marsha)

Question on the Sedum: Would it be better to trade these in the spring, or can I cut them down for the trade? They're growing from a central clump, and I'm not sure if I'm going to damage them in the digging process. Should I take cuttings instead? Help me out here. Thanks.

Deanna, The lentil soup would be great. I made some for the spring swap and it went quickly.
Marsha, Bring what will be the easiest for you
mmqch.... I was just commenting on the milk weed. I have plenty in the field and am glad to say I have the beginnings of monarch butterflies

Someone wanted Ladies Mantle.I found a couple in my garden and would be glad to share one.

I've added up how many are coming so far. Between the ones who responded on this post and those who responded by email
there are 29 coming .Right now forecast is for sun. Keep your fingers crossed.

Hi Annie, I am planning to come also hoping to bring a friend. The spring swap was my first visit it was great even though I had to leave early. I will bring a mexican dip and a dessert if thats alright.
I can bring for plants 2 no name daylilies that I got at a lost tag auction very dark wine color. Also some fans of the following Smokey Mountain Autumn, Strawberry Candy, Chance Encounter, Margaret Mitchell, Apricot Ruffles, Cinnamon Glow. Also some toad lily, yellow allium and another very tall one. Foxglove they were white with purple. Looking forward to Sunday!

    Hi sinbadsmon
So glad you want to come back to the swap. I've got you down for you and a friend. Would you please email me so that I know your real name. I think you may be the one who works with horses, right? ao many new people last spring that I can't keep track. A dip and a dessert sound great.
    Annie

I have no foxglove if there is some looking for a home, does that like shade or sun? Thanks.diene

    Diene
I just potted up a yellow perennial foxglove that I can put your name on if you would like it. The others are biennial and I'm not sure when they should be dug up.I'll try to get that info this week when I do my volunteering for Master Gardening. Foxgloves do well in sun/partial shade.
    Annie

    MM,
I'd love some of your pink yarrow and a rud or two. I've been telling Sheila how great the Solidaster Lemore would look in her garden- not sure about the sedum I've never been able to kill any but spring swap would be ok too. I have sub and substance hosta that I could dig but again it may be easier in spring.
I'll be glad to take a few daylilies off of anyone if they have extra. And if Annie has any extra blue cardinal flower...
    Marsha

    Good morning,

Sinbads mom, what are you looking for this season? I would love a toad lily and your yellow allium. I have some potentilla but I don't know if your still looking for that. I also can shave a small piece of ech. green envy from my plant, it didn't spread the way I had hoped it would but I can cut it in half if you would like that in exchange.

    Sasha, hello!

    Sasha
I have plenty of blue cardinal flower. I will put your name on one. I would like a bit of your thyme.
    Annie

    Hello Annie,

I had mentioned that other than day lillies and hostas, I was also looking for Lady's mantle!
    See you sunday
    Blake

    Marsha-
Ok, how about I do this: I'll take a cutting or two, check the sedum forum to see the how-to of it all, and I'll bring you daylilies for the time being, and also plan on bringing you the sedum again in the spring "just in case" the cutting thing doesn't work.
What kind/color daylilies are you partial to? Solids, ones with eyes...fragrant...tall? Lemme know, and I'll see what nice ones I can dig up for you because of the 'questionable nature' of the sedum trade. I don't want to hose you on my end of the trade.

The historic iris I have is, coincidentally, on a current NE Garden post! Look for the pale lilac and yellow iris he calls "unknown" in the posting entitled "Some photos of my flowers," link below.

Here is a link that might be useful: my historic iris, called unknown

Just want to make sure I have saved the correct plants for the following people.

Blake: white phlox, white spring daisies, Lady's Mantle
Lisa blue cardinal flower, white daisy, fall anemone.
    Diene Fall anemone
    Marsha blue cardinal flower
let me know if I have left anyone out.
Keep your fingers crossed that we have good weather.

Don't forget to bring a lawn chair

    Happy Fall You All !!
Annie, myself and my daughter will be coming to your plant swap.

Annie, could I trade a daylily for your white aster?

    Deanna
I will pot one up for you.

    Lynn
    Look forward to seeing you.
    Annie

    Hi Annie,

    I'll be there!

    Diane Raymond

    Hello Annie et al;
I will not be there which means that I will not be bringing a pasta salad. I am sorry but my Aunt died and her wake is today and funeral tomorrow both in Mass so I will be rather exhausted by Sunday and not up for a drive. I am trying to contact ishareflowers as I believe she lives near my Aunt's home and I am hoping to get my plants to her.
Otherwise, I can ship your daylilies Annie if you could save me that anemone or maybe send it back with Blake if she is willing and I can pick it up from her.
I do not have time to get the plants to Blake but I may be able to connect with Lisa.
Hopefully in the spring I will be able to make it.

    Diene
Sorry to hear of your loss and that you won't be coming. Don't worry about the plants or salad. I'll give you your anemone in the spring. It will do better then. I've found that the anemone transplants better when it is small.
    Annie

    Diene,

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your aunt. I haven't gotten an email from you. I'm not worried about our exchange! I would be happy to meet with you if you want to get the plants FROM ME so they can settle in. I have no problem not getting the plants that we were planning on trading, even if you wnat to pick up your end, I can wait until spring for mine, no need for you to have to add digging plants to your list of things to do.

Annie and Tina, I have yet to be able to get anything off of my choc. joe pye plant, this plant is crazy!! I'm going to try to get the hubby to help me.

I have both of your heucheras, astlbe and whit buterfly bush cuttings.

Beth will be bringing aq case of water and I haven't figured out what I'll be bringing yet, maybe a macaroni salad???

This is what I have unclaimed:

    oriental limelight artemesia
    helianthus lemon queen
    potentill- william rollison
    pasque flower-papageno
    ladies mantle
    heuchera ruby bells
    caramel
    silver king artemesia
    geranium- scented perennial
    choc. chip ajuga
    heuchera- miracle

I'm still digging, but wanted to update:
Lisa & Marsha, you should be all set with the sedum. I bit the bullet and lobbed off a good sized chunk of what was there, and put the rest back. Apparently it IS very easy to propagate them by taking a cutting, removing the bottom leaves, and sticking them in the dirt, but I got you each about 5 or 6 stems with a chunk of the root.

Most things I potted up last weekend, so they've had time to recover, but some that I'm doing today might look a little 'limp' tomorrow. I know you guys all know that the fall swap isn't about "looks," though ;)

Did I put Maltese Cross on my first list? If not, I've got 3 good-sized chunks to share.

Annie- I know this is last minute (and if it's better to do it in the spring by all means hold off till then), but I'd like to have a turtle-head. I know it's in bloom now, so if this is better done in spring, that's totally fine. I've got a big bed of daylilies currently out of the ground because I need to bring the whole bed up higher- is that something that you'd be interested in? In that bed I have Sea Gold, Suzy Wong, Fairy Tale Pink, Peggy Bass, Phoenix Ruffles, Brocaded Gown, Voluptuous Pink, Lilting Lavender, Lavender Illusion, and Cancun. If any of those interest you, I'll bring for you; if not, maybe there's something else I can bring for you?

I'm late, I'm late, I'm late. I'm not even sure what I'm bring for plants since I'm headed out to the garden to dig some now. I hope people don't mind freshly dug.

Blaketaylor, forgive me for not responding, I'll have some nasturtium (climbing yellow) and calendula seeds for you.

If anyone has a dark red bee balm, I'd like a plant. I will probably bring a pale lavender one that is the wrong color for my garden.

MM I'll get you a turtle head. Any yellow lily would be great.
    Annie

    Hi Annie,

Hubby and I will be coming tomorrow (2 persons) and I'm bringing the tomato/basil/mozzerella salad you requested. I had a tooth extraction Thursday and my jaw is so sore! I won't be bringing any plants this time as I don't feel well enough to go dig, but I would love it if you would set aside a lady's mantle and an anemone for me.

I promised a friend that I would bring her small starts of anything that is leftover at the end of our swap, as she just moved to new digs and doesn't have anything. I'm also giving her hardy hibiscus seeds and heliopsis. I can bring you those if you like, but I already know that you have both of those in quantity. I can't think of anything that I have that you don't already have....

Your garden is so peaceful that I am looking forward to just having my gums healed up by being in your garden! See you tomorow. Big hug.
