Rhyncholaelia digbyana alba Mrs ChaseAM/AOS(selfing)

I've been so busy, I didn't even know that this was in spike.

It was on a shelf in the back and I found it while watering yesterday.

It's grown s/h and under lights.

I guess that they can bloom like that after all. ;~)

I just LOVE these!!! I'm trying to bring a large one back from the brink. Mine seem to like being more dry than other catts, so I have it riding high on a huge pile of diatomaceous rock in an area of the GH that gets nearly vanda sunlight and plenty of heat.

These have one of the greatest of orchid scents!

    Thanks Sharon! :~)

It was one of those that I never thought that I could grow, let alone actually bloom!
Conditions are identical for most of what I grow.
(With the exception of my cool growers.)
All s/h under FL's with some sun exposure.
Plastic pots sitting communally in three to four inches of water.
I can't keep up during summers, so they dry out far more.
Although I'm going to have to move everything now, summer room temps get to a high of 90F+(with fans) and a low of 50F'ish at night.

"These have one of the greatest of orchid scents!"

    What?
    Lime Pledge? ;~)

    Absolutely gorgeous scott.

Well, I think they have a nice smell too. Wouldn't call it the greatest, stans reserve that, but it sure smells nice.

    Nice pictures too.

Looks like I may have to get one again.

Very Kewt, hope this was not one of the accident victims.

Yours haas a more delicate look than I've seen in other digbys, which is lovely.
Hope mine decides to bloom someday!

I think it smells very lemony, and strongly so!

Pledge? You mean the stuff that you use to wax furniture? Gee, I seem to remember doing that a couple of decades ago. Need a putty knife to scrape off all the dust these days. LOL!

    Thanks! :~)

It's not that I think the smell is bad, it just has an artificial quality to it.
I smells more like citrus extract, rather than zest or juice. More lime-like to my nose.

    Nope!
    These have been kept inside.
I actually have two of 'em. This one, here, is a selfing and the other is an original division of the awarded plant.
It's not mature enough to bloom and, although the roots are very healthy, I killed it's one new growth. :~(
I'd like to compare blooms, someday, and see if there any difference in quality.
I really was very suprised at the bloom.
The idea of a cultural shock was mentioned to me as a trigger.
I thought that most of my culture was pretty shocking!;~)

The area is being remodeled and the lighting has been erratic, as have temps.
I did find several other orchids in spike, so I could've triggered the lot of 'em or they're now going to all die!;~)

I'm going on faint memory, Sharon! ;~)
We've alway had far more important things to do than dust, anyway.
All you really need, is a good hose and a leaf blower! ;~)
Besides, I don't like having potentially dangerous chemicals in the air.

It's a beauty! I never would have thought this orchid would have been a good canidate for semi hydro. I just ordered a blooming size one, and from what I've read on them they like it dryier...Go figure ~Charm

Sometimes, ignorance actually is bliss! ;~)

I really didn't know what I was doing at the time, let alone now. ;~)
Anything and everything went into some form of s/h.
Orchids, house plants and even my Darlingtonia bog is based upon the idea.

My tempermental original division has yet to be, but I will switch it over very soon while it has major new root growth.
I really was very concerned about what I did, after the fact.
As I got several new healthy growths, I stopped worrying about it.
Although I've posted photo's before of my 'make do' efforts, i'll try to see if some example photos can be taken.
Like I've said before, "It weren't nothin'!"
I just tried and tried and some things seemed to work for my personal conditions.
If my conditions were different, everything might rot.
    I don't really know.

    Scott
