How did y'all fare through the night?

While I'm commiserating with those of you who received nearly a foot of rain yesterday, I'm doing a happy dance this morning for the just-over-one-inch that fell here between sunset and sunrise.

We had a particularly close lightning strike, so I've already been out in the jammies looking to see if there was a tree or cows down. Didn't see anything yet, but I'll go out to check on cows when it gets a little more light.

No damage, but there was a stream of peat moss and moth balls from my side garden under the drip line. That will get better as the ajuga fills in. No hail, so the cannas are all still pretty.

We're happy enough. We saw one small funnel cloud to our north just before sunset, but it quickly dissolved. As we live on the eastern edge of Lake Hugo, we lose a lot of storm energy there and don't have much trouble with tornadoes, we also see rain break up a lot and pass us by. So glad this one didn't!

I believe we received about two inches of rain, since yesterday morning. It mainly came in a slow steady rain. I'm pretty happy about it.

    Anna,

I'm not surprised y'all saw a funnel. I was looking at the dew point map on the Mesonet last night and your corner of the state had very high dewpoints....74, 75, 76.....and high dewpoints contribute to storm intensity.

We had 2.5" of rain, most of which fell after midnight, so I am happy. It was good to get enough rain, but not too much.

I feel just like George does....pretty happy about the rainfall. I do feel relieved we didn't get a huge amount.

We've had several cows hit by lightning around us this year. One neighbor lost his bull and another lost a couple of cows. Until we moved here to this rural area, I never knew how often this happens.

My hubby has a theory that it happens more when folks have very open pastures with on a few single trees here or there. We have groves of trees that the cows go to when it rains, so hopefully they're not an easy target.

I walked the pasture this morning and everything was so bright and happy for the rain. The grass was a lot greener already.

Dawn- I bet you're glad you brought the tomatoes in. Hope the fruit does ok. I sure miss my home grown peaches! Citrus is ok but not as good.
My vet, when we lived up in Hominy, lost about 5 broodmares when her tree got hit by lightening.
I have a broodmares and baby living in Whitesboro, I always worry about storms because they are on pasture. My friend who takes care of them brings them in the barn if weather is really bad but you never know with lightening and funnel clouds. I almost lost 5 horses to the fire there in 2006 when it was so dry. The only thing that saved them was the sandy dirt lot they were corralled in.
While being evacuated the trailer floor caught on fire and they barely made it.
Always either too wet or too dry, isn't it? I sure miss it though, especially the thunderstorms. We only get a couple a year in AZ and they are wimpy, not much in the way of a light show.

I got another 1 1/4" to add to my 9+ from yesterday.

Everything is GREEN and that's a nice thing!

We had a nice thunderstorm last night here in the Panhandle, it knocked out the power for a couple of hours in the middle of the night, but other than that, no problems. We've seen lots of severe weather skirt around us, but nothing really bad for us this year. We're missing out on lots of the rain, too!

Last night was better than yesterday morning! At 8:15 a.m. we were surrounded. One more inch and we would have been under just like the neighbors. It was bad. We lost all our fence, assorted yard art and one blueberry plant, pot and all. The worst thing was listening to the bullfrogs bawl all day and into the evening, looking for their mates. Guess they aren't used to being in the trees either! I'm guessing we're in the 10-12 inch range. We obviously planned the garden well because it was high and dry. Well, not necessarily dry but undamaged! My flower beds around the house were washed away. Still lots to be thankful for!

We got 4+ inches here in Choctaw. All that happened was one of my Cayennes got knocked over.

I did get some erosion damage. Looks like a bunch of gopher runs collapsed and washed out. Have a couple nasty looking sinkholes too.

A record rainfall of 3.03 inches was set at Tulsa Oklahoma
yesterday. This breaks the old record of 2.58 set in 1961.

Funny, I have a barrel in the middle of my garden and could have sworn we had more like 8". Whatever, I am just so grateful that it rained, and that the rain has stopped! Everything still looks great!

I had 4 1/2 inches in my rain gauge this morning here in Stillwater, but that included rain from last night and night before last. I didn't see any flooding in my part of town.

I'm really glad everyone is ok. I'm assuming my horses are ok as it doesn't sound like Whitesboro got much to speak of.
The storms used to split on top of us when we lived at Medicine Park. Something about the mountains, I guess. The year the big tornado hit Edmund we didn't get a drop but everyone around us got hammered. I watched that tornado forming as it started south of Anadarko, probably just 15 miles due north of us.
Now that was a wicked storm!

We got a bit more rain overnight, but nothing like the night and day before. Nothing was damaged in the garden - a bit of displaced straw mulch on the ground; tomatos were fine, absolutely no loss of limb or leaf or fruit. I was glad I picked the 3 tomatos that I did before the rain set in. I will be able to eat 2 tomorrow.

We got another 2 tenths plus which put us over an inch since it started. Again more around us. Just on the edge. I've thankful for what we've received this year. A big improvement over last year. I looked at the totals at sites within 20-30 miles of here since the first of the year. From 4.69 to 12 inches plus. Not a lot of miles can make a big difference. The heat will be hitting again tomorrow for at least a few days. Hopefully some more will be on the way before this is all gone. Just thankful that most of the hail has missed us. I went to Liberal today. Saw wheat field ruined by the hail and some fields with lot of rain and wind where it is all down. Some corn fields have lots areas where the corn is laying over. The corn will straighten up. The wheat won't. Jay

not much here, ground was wet but no puddles. From looking at pans setting out side I would say we got about .1 inch or a little more. Every thing is still going north of Ft. Smith or south of Poteau.
