my beautiful frangipani's branches are developing splits along its branches, up to about 4 inches long. it looks like root-like things are pushing out of these splits, and to be quite honest, it looks pretty alien and gross (like worms or something). the tree seems ok, and still flowers on the branch past the split, but want to know if i should be cutting the affected bits or what.

i haven't ever seen this phenomenon before, and i've been around these trees for most of my life. is it a disease, lack of nutrient/water, or just growth (normal or abnormal)??
