Are you sure it is a "King" Sago (Cycas revoluta)? They are one of the slower cycad species and difficult to get a 2nd flush unless there is a long growing season.

What did you do to get it to flush so early in the year in April?

I bought it from Home depot back in October 2005. It was marked King Sago. I see them at home depot all of the time and they all look just like mine. I had it in a northeastern window over the winter getting some morning sun. In late March we had two consecutive days in the low 80s. I stuck it out in full sun and it started. It took some time to finish. It didn't finish until late April until it went out for the year. I said April-May but as I think about it it definately was those two days in March that started it. Any idea how they do as far as getting rootbound? I have never re-potted it since I bought it.

Cycas revoluta are grown as bonsai so being root-bound is tolerated and can slow down growth substantially but that does not mean the plant cannot be kept healthy.

If a year goes by and a flush never happens or the leaves are fewer and/or smaller, or you notice that you are watering more often than previously, it might be time to repot, but just like any other slower growing plant, every 2-3 years or so is probably a good idea if you want to maintain good growth.

I get at least two flushes a Summer here in Kansas, and there has been two or three that I got three flushes out. However I do throw cow manure on them about once a month which I think helps A LOT!
