Is that a rostrata in the background?

I have a few agaves in the yard, but no parryi yet. My daughter argues with me all the time that the utahhensis var nevadahensis is a cactus. One evil looking little devil.

I actually read somewhere that agaves got the century plant name from how seldom they bloom.

The plant in the background is Cordyline australis, as will as some large Trachycarpus, and a very, very tall Yucca aloifolia in the background to the left, with a weeping flower stalk. I am starting to think that yucca may be Yucca filifera, but who knows. Anyway, glad you liked the pics. I always trim each point individualy as they emerge from the center of the Agaves, or Yucca's like Aloifolia for example. Take care.

What a beauty! I didn't realize that australis could get that big. Now that I see it, the aloifolia is huge as well. I'll bet it has some nice pups coming up beside it.

I have a couple of small aloifolia as well as a first season australis(which I hope to overwinter with protection) but I don't expect it to ever reach that size, here. I guess I'll never know until I try.
