thanks! i have seen pics of them and they are always black/purple. i guess some people pick them prematurely? but after searching some more i do see some red ones mixed with black ones. maybe people pick them at difference stages for different flavor? they are supposed tombe hot, yes :)

For best flavor and/or seed-harvesting, pick when red ripe.
Try an unripe pod, though, see if you like it / can use it as you would a green pepper.
