Little late re roses, a week ago we had a hard freeze and they're toast. Silverton got 3 feet of snow last week, by the way. I assume you are staying in Flagstaff one night, then Durango (5-6 hr drive) the next. Are you are riding the Silverton train out of Durango, or the one out of Georgetown? Durango to Leadville is about an 8 hr drive over some spectacular country, particularly this time of year when the aspen are changing.

In Denver, the Botanical Gardens might be doing ok, but someone there should know better.

I forgot, if you haven't visited yet, Monument Valley, between Flagstaff and the Colorado Border, is a very spectacular swing outta the way, and you go through the valley, then across the San Juan at Mexican Hat, then into Bluff, through Aneth, and back to the main road. It takes about 30 min longer driving time, but certainly worth it.

Denver Botanic Gardens is always warmer than me, since it's in Denver, and I haven't had a hard enough freeze to freeze the roses. We just keep getting some patchy frost. So it's possible the roses at DBG are OK, although they may be past the fall flush. Their season is usually two weeks longer than mine. There's also a really nice rose garden near the Jefferson County jail that was put in by the Denver Rose Society, but that's in an area that may have gotten more of a freeze, being closer to the mountains.
