Or you could try a Thuja Green Giant Arborvitae: 'Green Giant' arborvitae (Thuja 'Green Giant') Zones 5–7 Evergreen with a uniform pyramidal shape; grows 3 feet or more a year. Use as hedging or as a single specimen that needs no shearing. Grows 50–60 feet high by 12–20 feet wide; adaptable but prefers moist, well-drained soil and full sun.

LOL! My husband wanted it as it is super comfy. I had hoped I would be able to make it work incorporating colors with it but it's just so big! We also have a giant ottoman that turns it into a massive bed which is aggravating and I don't keep it in the room. It is great for movies with the kids but it's 51" x 51" so it can't stay all the time. I am sending the large chaise back as the cushions don't stay in place and have a smaller one, lighter in color that isn't a modular piece on the way... If I could return the whole thing though I definitely would. I just have to figure out some way to make this room work until I can knock out that wall with the weird fake window on it, and open it all up. I had wanted to do orange and teal with it... But I haven't been able to find the right rug. I have previously thought your rug should have some of the same colors in it as your accents in the room... but now I'm thinking maybe I could just do a lighter brown patterned rug and then do whatever colors I can get to work? I attached a picture of the chaise that is smaller and lighter in color... As well as the weird wall in the room, and a rug I found online... I like what you are saying about large art to balance the sofa, that makes sense. Once I can figure out colors I can then try and find something to work on the walls...

Ethan Allen thank you but I want the trees in order to block the view of the neighbor's house - I'm just wanting to remove the far left tree due to the unsightly red balls that drop everywhere. Legacy I'm pretty sure one tree is a carrotwood but I'll take close ups to confirm. Would love your opinion on what to put over there once the wall is added and I add more dirt as you recommended! I'm relieved you're ok with the euphorbia and thank you for the trellis idea but had a question - if I'm not a trellis fan did you say I could pull it out once the plant is high enough to distract from the hose spout?

Before you start, declutter, declutter, declutter. Get rid of outgrown toys. Rotate many of the others so that your toddler often has "new toys!!!" Okay, now you're ready to deal with the decor and furniture arrangement. --Keep the Expedit but get 1-2 others to run across the wall sideways. Place the TV on it. Use Expedit pull out drawers for all the remaining toys. Get rid of the tall bookcase once all the toys are stored in the Expedit arrangement. That will give you a clear pathway to connect the family room area to your kitchen. --Get two modern tall-ish table lamps for the Expedit "console" setup. --Leave couches as is but pull the chair in at an angle. (It's pretty oversized for the room, however. An occasional chair down the road would be better.) --Get the same roman shade window treatment as you have in the dining area to connect the spaces. All the windows should have the same treatment. --If that's the only space for a bulletin board, get or make a larger, really attractive one and make it a display/function space. I know blackboard paint walls are becoming passé, but it might work on that wall with the new bulletin board. They're child friendly. --Change out your fan/light fixture for something modern down the road. --Go to Overstock.com and find a large area rug in taupe, black, teal and your furniture will fit in better. --Get yourself a long, low, two-shelf maple table you can us as a coffee table/drawing table for the family once the wonderful train table is outgrown.
