Juliet Grape vs. Sprite Grape vs. Supermarket Grape???

I need some advice guys!

I always like to have a grape tomato growing in my yard, but I don't have high standards for grape toms, and I'm really happy wih almost anything, so in the past I've just taken the easy way out and planted seeds from a supermarket tomato.

Maybe the supermarket tomato wasn't the best, but it suited my purpose as it was relatively sweet and juicy. It's possible it was a a Santa, but it may not have been (I don't know). I only have room for one grape tomato this year, but I want to do it right! Which of these 3 options(Juliet, Sprite, Supermarket) would you pick and why?

Thanks!

You'd rather have a grape variety rather than a cherry variety?!? OK - then I guess I'd have to pick Sprite.

But first, check out Riesentraube, Gardener's Delight, Sun Gold, even Rosalita.

I agree, none of the above.
If you want red, Sugary or Tami-G. Or Green Grape if you want to really branch out (and you might find you become picky after trying some with wonderful flavor!)

I don't like Cherry tomatoes. (Ducks as rotten tomatoes come flying at me LOL).

I like grape tomatoes because they are sweet, but still have the tomatoey flavor I'm looking for. I've never met a cherry I liked. I think I also don't like the shape of cherrys for my salad. But I hear very good things about Black Cherry, so I'm going to try that this year.

Still, I want a grape tomato as I like them for my salads. The 3 I mentioned are what I already have seed for. I don't think I want to go to the trouble and expense of paying $5(with shipping) just to get seeds for a grape tomato.I checked the exchanges section and unfortunately no one was offering any fabulous grape tomato seeds, so these are my options.

By the way, has anyone ever tried sweet pea curant? It sounds so flavorful.... and cute too.

I have only grown Juliet of your 3 but like it very much- yes I know many don't. I grow it every year (gasp!) because it wins the most vigorous seedling and first tomato of the season awards most of the time. I hate juicy (read watery) thin-skinned sugary tomatoes that crack and split and squirt seeds when you bite them. Not Juliet. It doesn't crack and while the taste is not that special has a nice tomatoey taste. I've been growing saved seeds not the original hybrid and some are larger and longer.

I also like Principe Borghese and grow it most years. One year I had a fungus problem with my seedlings and did something stupid like watered with some "what I thought" was dilute vinegar, and all of them died except for 5 PB's which went on to keep me in tomatoes all summer.:-D

I've saved Supermarket Santa Sweets seeds as mentioned elsewhere in this forum and was pleased with the results. I think I read in a seed catalog once that Juliet and Santa have a shared heritage.
I'm trying Sprite this year in a container and I asked in a thread a while back about it. The response was nothing great to ok tasting.
I will second Sugary as a good alternative. Surgary has been a perennial favorite of family and friends from my garden.

I've tried Juliet, and really didn't care for it. I, too, wanted some of those supermarket variety tomatoes. I found that the variety "Sweet 100" tastes pretty close, and produces quite well. I often go outside and eat them right off the vine. I don't know about the others you listed.

    Good luck!

I'm growing Juliet this year for salads. I had an aunt with a couple of very productive plants that brought us bags of them last year. I think they're great for snacking.

I'm also growing Sweet 100s. Not my favorite, the skins were kind of thick last year, but the kids eat them like candy.

Try to find space for a Yellow Pear to add some color to your dinner table.
