H Dr. Moy is an excellent choice. I am really pleased with H. Luna Moth. It is vigorous and compact, to about 4 feet tall in a pot. The leaves are broad and a nice dark green color. I just noticed today that the ends of the stalks are swelling on my plant. The white flowers look like H. coronarium, a bit larger and blooming several at a time per stalk through November if I cover it when frost threatens. The scent is super spicy-sweet, especially at night. Very easy to grow and bloom, likes lots of water, a good feed once a week at half strength, and fish emulsion for a treat. Can be stored dormant like cannas, etc. Luna Moth is the most dependable, robust and beautiful Hedychium I have grown.

Very cool! I have been looking at Luna Moth since you posted... and maybe it is more of what I need? I noticed sites mentioned bright shade for it as a possibility, and bright shade is what I have. No one mentions bright shade for Dr. Moy :P

Be warned. It is extremely vigorous and will quickly outgrow any pot! Needs a lot of water. I am curious as to the name Dr. Moy. presumably it is a hybrid. Do you know of what varieties? - Ian.

Dr. Moy is a cross between H. Flavum and H. Coccineum although I've seen it described as a cross between H. Coronarium and H. Coccineum. I think the Flavum/Coccineum is correct. There is a newer version of the original called Dr. Moy "improved" that has much more variegation in the leaves. I have both and the improved version seems to grow shorter than the original. Both are real easy to grow.
