Rambutan needs to be planted fresh. I lost my seeds when I went on vacation, but they were sprouting.
Jackfruit germinates very well in peat. They grow very quickly.

Jackfruit grow like weeds. They germinate quickly and you can expect about 95% strike rate. Rambutan will sprout fairy easily from fresh seed but are ultra tropicals and therefore wont tolerate any cold.

This thing is the fussiest one to grow, if you don´t live in the most tropical weather forget about it, or in a very sophisticated greenhouse (temp control, humidity control, light, vent, rain water, etc)

I can't get rambutan seeds to sprout. I planted them fresh and removed every last bit of the pulp, but they just didn't sprout. I will try sprouting them outdoors next time.

I found a couple of new kinds of rambutan while in Borneo last week and collected a bunch of seeds. I ate the flesh and cleaned them up as much as possible and put them in a plastic bag to bring home.

They were in the bag about a week while I was travelling around and when I got home and opened the bag, most of them had begun germinating!
Give that method a try.

I check a couple days ago and they're all sprouting, too.

Can Jackfruit be left growing in a container...can it be pruned to a desired height and still be expected to bear fruit? Also, how long does it take for the Jackfruit to bear fruit?

I came across this older thread about Rambutan sprouting and would like to see if some of you are still into Rambutan planting.

Anakaleki, you had mentioned that your seeds sprouted. Have they grown into a bigger plant for you now? It would be interested to hear how big they have grown.

Patusho, you said that Rambutans were fussiest one to grow, how so? Did they die while in the ground for you, or did they die despite your taking care of them (i.e. keeping them above 60 degrees F)?

I'd really like to hear about your experience with Rambutan planting.
