What's eating my morning glory?

This is my 1st year growing MG and I did them via the ws method (which I totally love and will do again).

Anyway, something has been eating my MG. The flower buds are still there but the leaves are chomped right off. Looks like they were cut off - no leaves on the ground. Last night I lost 3 inches of vine and leaves as well as leaves off of 3 other vines.

What gives?

We have deer, squirrels, a gohper (although he has not been seen in the front yard which is where the MG are) and chimpunks (again, never spotted in the front yard).

This is driving me nuts. After work I am heading out to buy some netting to put over the trellis w/ the MG. Oh, and to put over a few rose bushes b/c the same thing is happening to their blooms (the roses are a good 40' from the mg).

Sounds like a 4 footed critter is enjoying your morning glory vines. I would put my bets on a chipmunk as the culprit.
In the past, I have had the same problem.

What i have found is hanging windchimes around the plants at a very low level keeps the critters away. I have a collection of really cheap ones that I've gotten at dollar stores and use those.

The other thing is those vines that where chewed off will be fine. You will soon find new stems branching out from where the pieces was taken off. It's sort of like a critter pinching your vine for you instead of you doing it yourself.

Deer will eat everything they can reach. No exceptions. And what they didn't eat yesterday, they will be back for tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that, until there is nothing left.

Arghh, thanks for the info- describes exactly what I found this morning- I had just planted my first MGs and they were climbing so nicely, hadn't even bloomed yet- dang critters

IM THINKING THE SQUIRRELS, AS I SAW A JUVINILE MUNCHING AWAY..... BUT NOW I'M SUSPECT OF RATS TOO...??.... ANYONE ELSE??... MINE ARE GETTING CHOMPED ON FOR SURE.... BUDS ARE GOOD.... THE LEAVES AND VINES ARE NIBBLED ON....
