Need help with suitable tree or shrub for large byard planter, sunny.
Comments (7)Ask your local nursery or extension agent for advice for a container shrub or ornamental tree. I am in zone 7 and have ligustrum planted in pots that stay out year round. I lost two during a very bad winter, but that could have a lot to do with our drought and water restrictions. You might even try a deciduous shrub. Basically, you want the hardiest evergreen shrub that will grow in your area....See MoreWhat's the best way to organize containers?
Comments (53)Ever since ZIP LOCK bags came out I use them for whatever storage I need. That being said it's not the only solution - particularly in a kitchen setting for example. I prefer NOT to take food items out of the pkg they came in unnecessarily - even if it does look better. I want the cooking instructions, the expiration date if perishable, etc. at the time I go to use the food item. I'm living in an aptmt waiting for a home build. It is small and looks like a warehouse…..I wash plastic/glass containers after they are empty and reuse them in the refrig for example or something to bring to an outing. If it doesn't make it home to be re-used…….nothing lost. (I will do less of this when we have a "new home" but for now it's the ULTIMATE RECYCLE effort. Comments (75)Clean, well groomed, and well maintained…both hardscape and plants/grass. Flowers where possible…but grooming is everything. If you are in a drought stricken area and you have the means, there are some amazing artificial sods that look amazingly real, trade out that thirsty grass for drought tolerant or artificial turf....See MoreDeer resistant shrub for containers needed
Comments (44)Somehow the gate mention got past me...oops. Beautiful house...I have the same limestone, love the colors in it! Back to plants...salvias do well as a group...salvia greggii is a pretty red that would really show well. I have some that I suspect the deer nibble occasionally but my beds aren't protected at all. Esperanza is also great...bright yellow bell flowers on a medium to tall shrub that you might consider for another spot in the courtyard. My deer ate mine but I've seen others in my area that thrive. You can have a lot of fun with container gardens in that space....See Morebry84
