While you don't see a lot in winter, some do stay on. I've seen them rooting around in leaf piles under trees looking for food in the dead of winter here (MA).

They're in the neighborhood here all winter (Plymouth, MA) but I don't see them too often unless there's fruit to eat. All this week the robins and Cedar Waxwings have been feasting on winterberries that finally ripened.

I think Robins are only partially migratory in that they will stay around in cold regions IF there is little or no snow cover. That way they can continue to find insects or berries that have fallen to the ground in the leaf litter.

We've had very little snow so far here in Mass., but you don't hear me complaining, especially after last winter!

Thank you for sharing your pics and knowlede ! ' we no snow cover so that makes sense. They are a welcome sight, even if spring is a ways away. At least the fireworks didn't get them.

We usually start to see a host of robins in mid- to late January, flocks of 30 or more, working their way through the neighborhood, digging for bugs on the lawns and stopping for water in our heated bird baths. It's an amazing sight, a lawn or birdbath filled with robins!

I love the video! Everyone is getting into the scene, including the squirrel. Lots of clean, happy critters there.

Thanks. The birdbath heater is a godsend for the birds. They know they can always find fresh water around our home.

It's fun to see a video like that, with so many robins, plus the blue jay, the red bellied woodpecker (isn't he a beauty?) and the big fat squirrel!
