You could help Mother Nature by putting a 1 1/4" reducer on the dee box and let them raise their single brood and put up another box for the blues so they can hopefully fledge 3 broods.

I would definitely put up a second box. Chickadees really seem to like Gilbertsons (painted to look like a birch tree - also not very attractive to House Sparrows) and small NABS style boxes.

Here in CT, chickadees nest before blues. I always put a hole reducer on the INSIDE of the hole when chickadees nest, as they tend to get ousted by larger birds. I had very few chickadee nests on my trail last year.

I do not have a very big backyard...so where do I place another bluebird house? Last year the blues let the dees have the house first and when everyone moved out the blues moved in. Also today I looked inside the house and there was 1 little egg all nicely covered up with soft material. So now what?? Where do I buy the hole reducer?

Chicadeees are wonderful, I second the idea of another box. You do not need a big yard, the box does for the Dees does not have to be far, 15 feet should do it. Maybe you could have it so the entrance holes face different directions.

Birds Unlimited or stores like them will carry metal hole reducers. I just make my own out of wood with a smaller hole drilled through and screw it on.
