chickadees eating from my hand.

I seen a few videos of people feeding chickadees out of their hand... i noticed when i fill the feeders they don't seem to care about me being there. So when i went out the other day to set up a heated bird bath, i held out some seed ... and "wahla" they just kept on landing in my hand. I told my wife about it. So she when out and it didn't take a minute for them to land in her hand. She was all excited. Now its an every day thing to do. Yesterday a titmice landed in my hand but seemed to be a bit leery. I really need to get a new video camera.

i have feeders in a tree just outside of the kitchen window. A step ladder to fill them from. I was standing on the step ladder with a bowl of mixed seed in one hand and a cup in the other. and the chickadees were landing in the bowl and the cup. I went inside and got my point and shoot camera and came back out with camera in one hand and bowl in the other. And shot pictures. Put some of the seed in one hand and camera in the other and got some closeups from a foot aways

Mine will too but for some reason only in the winter.

Really? My 8 year old was trying to train them but she probably moves around too much or is too noisy and they all clear when we are out. We have a trail (driving distance) where the chickadees land on you. They are very cute. Do you have paths nearby where such an occurance happens and they are trained? Are they really just naturally friendly? I think I will pick up some unsalted peanuts for her to take out this week since we have so many at our feeder.

mine do it on their own the mountain chickadees are more friendly than the black capped. Mine love black oil sunflower seeds and all i have to do is stand under the feeders with some black oil seeds in my hand or a cup. They first land on a branch closeby and then on my arm or shoulder and then in the cup or my palm and grab a seed and scurry away only to come back real quick and get another.

I couldn't see the pictures either but they would land on the feeder while I was filling it. If the feeder began running low, Carolina Chickadees would fly out to my car window when I was pulling out of the garage and loudly "talk" in my face or land almost between my husband and I on the deck steps and "tell" me about it.

That's funny, rachel. Our feathered friends do try to communicate w/us don't they? As well as our dogs and cats.

COOL!!! I could not see the picture either, but I know that they will do this. My Carolinas will come around me when I am filling the feeders, but I haven't had much luck with getting them to hand feed. Just need to be more patient I think. :>)
