Are these cottonmouths?

We've had so much rain the past few days. The retention pond at my workplace is full of these snakes. Are they water moccasins? Whatever they are they sure look healthy and well fed.

Yes, absolutely. You're lucky to work where you can view these creatures so easily. I'm envious. Nice pictures, thanks for posting them.

    Yes, those are cottonmouths.

Yep. They're cottonmouths. They generally aren't a problem unless people or pets harass them. Those are some great pictures!

I was happy just to find a couple juveniles in North Florida in June! What are you giving those thing? steroids?

Thank you for confiming that these rascals are indeed cottonmouths. They are cool pics, huh? Wish I could say that I was the photographer but that honor goes to a co-worker. If this tropical storm lets up I plan on trying to get some of my own later.

lol @ Ox! I personally don't feed them anything! But I do wonder what they are eating. Must be frogs and such. They are nice and plump.

My fear is that I will step on one. We park in the grass and it's not always mowed, especially when it's wet like it has been.

    Thanks again guys.

So your co-worker took those pics huh? Did he take them recently? Hmmmmm...

Chad, what do you mean by your comment? She claimed to take these just a couple of days ago. I'm planning on bringing my camera with me tomorrow to get my own pics. I'll check back later.

Well, on another forum these pics were brought up as pictures from New Orleans. Another couple of forum posters commented that they are positive that they have seen these pics in the past, about a year ago. So I was wondering as to the validity of your co-workers claims. But maybe they arr wrong, I wouldn't know...

I've linked another discussion from different forums with one of this series of pictures. The consensus seems to be that these pictures predate Katrina and probably were not taken on an oil rig.
