Got rid of airgap, now dishwasher sounds strange

We have always had a airgap for our dishwasher. We had granite counters installed and I learned that we could do without the airgap as long as the plumber does the loop thingy.

The dishwasher runs fine, but it's just making some weird noises now, like this deep humming sound.

Is there a difference in the noises of having an airgap versus not?
