Convection microwave or convection range?
Comments (2)I agree with your conclusions. While it might heat a little faster than a conventional oven, it will still take time and energy to heat up a larger oven for a small meal. You can install a convection mw down under a counter, but most adults find it inconvenient to use - have to bend over. We have a convection mw and got it for the same reason. What we found over the years is that we really don't use it very much as it would hold only one dish anyway and even though smaller, does not get the food hot quickly. I would love to have an undercounter mw drawer so I could convert my space to a double oven....See MoreQuietest Double wall convection oven
Comments (27)Recently had a Bosch Benchmark double oven (with the side swing doors) installed in a new house (haven't moved in yet). We have used the oven on a few occasions to warm things up (bake mode) although we cooked bacon in the oven this AM (also bake mode). OMG. Yes, the fan is loud. But the fan blows an excessive amount of warm air into the room. If you are at the island opposite this oven, it blows enough for you to feel it on the back of your neck. YIKES! $5000+ This is not good. Plus, agree with another poster. It seems to take quite a while to heat to temp. Currently living in a condo with an 18 year old GE Monogram fridge and GE double oven. Had to replace a part in the fridge last year. Appliance service guy said keep both appliances 'til they die. Comments (5)That's true about the coils. Never thought of that actually. I've only used electric at home and really love the way they bake. My last experience with convection is that it blows everything to kingdom come, it burns the tops of everything I bake, even lowering the heat to 325. Especially quick breads which are dense and take a lot longer to bake on the inside. I find they brown the tops too rapidly and don't give enough time to bake the breads properly. Thanks everyone....See MoreKitchen remodel - 36" range + warming drawer or 48" range (2 oven)?
Comments (6)I use my warming drawer daily, and think you will like it! It's great for keeping prepared foods warm until dinner is ready, warming dinner plates (a nice luxury!), raising yeast doughs like bread and pizza crust, etc. While the smaller oven in the 48" range can serve somewhat like a warming drawer, the oven typically does not have the same temperature range, and could be too hot for some purposes. Plus, it does not hold the quantity of foods and plates like a warming drawer with a rack. So they aren't perfect substitutes. On the other hand, having a second oven is a wonderful thing in and of itself. It's great for big meals (Thanksgiving, etc.). But I find that I use the smaller oven much more than the big one. It heats up faster, and does not heat up my kitchen as much as the bigger oven. So I guess it's a question of lifestyle and which features will be most useful to you....See Morechipshot
