Free Spreadsheet - 640+ Varieties

I've collected a lot of data this past year and keep it in an Excel Spreadsheet. It has name, average fruit size, DTM, Det/Indet, leaf type, avg plant height, suitability to hanging baskets or smaller containers, Heat Tolerance, and pollination.

It might help some of the folks new to tomato-mania with some choices for the next crop. Simply Google the tomato name to find out who has seeds and read their description of the variety for extra information.

If you want a copy of this file, go to my "My Page" here at GW and send me an email. I'll attach the file to my reply. BTW, your email privacy will be strictly maintained. After the reply, comes the delete.

And, remember, it's free, no strings.

I'd very highly recommend containerted's spreadsheet for any use. I referenced it before picking out my tomato types to grow this year. :)

Ted, you have mail. Thank you!

Hi, I would love this list if possible.

I have covered the ones above who did not read the instructions on how to get a copy of the list. If you want a copy, SEND ME AN EMAIL through 'MY PAGE'(above)and I'll send you the file attached to my reply to that email.

It's a hassle to come here, write down your email address and then log off and go fire up my email account and start generating emails. It is easier for me if I check my email and simply reply to you. That way I'm not adding typing errors to the process and you get the file hours or even days faster.

I will be looking for your e-mail.

Ted, I came here wondering if there was a list of some sort that I could then customize and add too. Maybe I won't need too. I am sending you an email. Thanks so much. I also love the label idea above. Way Cool.

    Hi Ted,

    I sent you an email.

It's a hassle to come here, write down your email address and then log off and go fire up my email account and start generating emails.

Can't you run your browser and email programs at the same time? I did even on my old 486 from years ago. Then you can highlight and copy then just alt+tab between them, and paste addys into the email. And if you can send them BCC, you don't have to do each one individually. (But be careful doing that AOL may think you are spamming.)

    This list is great!

Bets, did you get your copy????

Yes, I can run both at the same time, but why should I? If someone is having significant problems, I have taken care of them. But it is easier for me to just reply to an email and attach the file. I going to suppose you have a degree in IT. Well, I do too and currently teach IT at a local college. One of the important things I teach students is that minimizing user keystrokes is the primary function of a programmer when designing or working on the user interface.

Now, if you think I'm being too lazy or something, then maybe I should just save my time and withdraw the spreadsheet offer so that that I'm not "bothered" by anyone else. Then I can use the time I save to take better care of MY garden.

If this is not the message you want me to follow, then I would suggest you and other folks follow the instructions in the original post.

Yes, I did get the copy. Very nicely done.

No, I don't have a degree in IT. I do have some certs, but not ones that would mean anything to most people, they are specific to my job. But I never know the computer expertise of the person on the other end, so the comment was not meant to be derogatory, but educational in it's weird way. My apologies if anyone was offended.

Personally, my hands are at the keyboard already, so I prefer to minimize the number of times I have to reach for my mouse when I can perform the same action with a key combination. All in the name of efficiency.

Now on the old 386.... that was tricked out with the maximum of 4 mb (Yes, megabytes) I could not run my browser and email app at the same time without slowing the whole thing down to a real crawl. If I did, I could plant tomato seeds, wait for them to sprout, repot the seedlings, then put them in the garden before anything got done, especially if someone sent me an attachement! :-)

    > This is a public list, which means posts come up on Google and dataminers can surf the web and find e-mails posted here, for selling to spammers.

I have my throw away email, junk, a business one, and a private one.

The last two never get posted anywhere.

    Thanks for the list.
I finally installed OpenOffice(Free!) so I could see it.

It'd be sweet to add a cold tolerant field.
and for me, presence of dwarfism gene.

Oh yeah, and pasta sauce type(meaty)

Can you send me the latest to junk@ponyshow.com
and I'll see if I can conjure up some of that info.

Actually, the working copy I use here at home also has fruit shape, and a comment area for growing notes. Many varieties have multiple line entries to reflect the source of the seeds I have, the seed age, and quantity on hand. But these and the other data items that folks want to keep can easily be added by them - Add a column. You can add varieties - Add a row.

Bets, no offense taken. It's just how I am.

Skunk, I thought you already had a copy. But, even though you didn't save any seeds for me, :>) , I'll find one of your emails and send it again.

See there, Bets. I'm not that bad. :>)

Leearnold@pghmail.com has asked for a copy and I replied but the reply email was rejected as not being a valid account. Lee, perhaps you need to use your "HOME" account. Many work account will not allow emails with attachments or emails from outside the work environment.

    Whatever, I tried.

To date, I have sent out more than 3,000 replies to destinations that cover the world.

I sent you an email today. Thanks for compiling it. Can't wait to receive it. I only have room for 10 varieties... how am am I ever going to be able to choose. :-)

Kristimama, it is intended to bring awareness to the new or novice tomato grower that there are so many varieties out there that are not sold by Bonnie Plants at your local home improvement or hardware store. Heirlooms span the spectrum of tastes, and, because taste is individual, heirlooms allow you to find varieties that YOU think taste good. It is a trip to find YOUR list of tomatoes to grow each year.

    Enjoy

    Ted
