Not Bill....but it seems they didn't take "Dilligent Care" when they set ther tiles. There MAY have been overlapping backing on the tile sheets that didn't allow the sheets to be butted up properly....or they may have just been careless about how they laid them. Hard to know unless I was there...

Thanks lazarususa, I agree that more care could have been taken. I think the problem is that they'd really never dealt with this type of tile before. The tile setters think that in their attempt to correct the discrepancies in the size of joint among the various mosaic sheets, they wound up compressing some of the tiles too deeply in the thin set.

They're going to try to correct some of it tomorrow. We'll see. I suspect its just one more of a long list of things that I'll just have to get used to.

Usually, when setting sheet tile, especially witrh hex, I'll keep a steel trowel, or a 12' piece of 2x6 (called a beating block) to tap over the tile (called beating it in), just to make sure it's flat. They obviously didn't beat it in, and this is what you get. I'd be complaining that it's not flat. if they complain that it's the tile, then they should've stopped as soon as they saw it. Tile claims can't be made once the tile is installed. I wouldn't agree with that (rthe tile being screwed up), but either way, it's on them.

Darn Bill, I wish they'd known about your "beating block" technique. Makes perfect sense. They went through yesterday and popped out the worst offenders (55 of them) and reset them. It looks much better. Still, I'm pretty sure we have the same issue in the master bath. The light just doesn't stream in to highlight the tiles. Ah well. I guess that's what I get for straying from the local status quo.
