Bill_Vincent, can you tell me what went wrong?

Hi Bill_Vincent, I saw you were around the forum and wanted to get your take on an issue we've just discovered. We're using unglazed white 2-inch hex in two bathrooms. It's from the Subway Ceramics people and seems very nice. Our first tile setter quit when we pointed out that he was leaving big gaps between the mosaic sheets. We hired some new guys who came highly recommended and who assured us they knew how to work with this tile. I was sick with a bad cold and not at the house site except the first day, but they texted me pics and everything seemed to be going all right. They weren't quite finished, but my husband paid them because all seemed well.

Guess what? Went to the house this weekend during the day with the light streaming in and this is what we saw. I know they'll blame it on the tile, but the tile seems fine. The tiles aren't installed flat. Some stick up, some are depressed (as am I because we're out of tile and out of luck). Do you know what went wrong?
