Be sure to ask how many sub contractor's they use. Its best to keep the number of subs as low as possible.

I would be concerned about the length and type of relationship the GC has with the subs. A long-term sub relationship is not a problem.

Ask him for the names, addresses and phone numbers of his previous clients and discuss what project delivery methods he offers (fixed price or cost plus a fee contract, design-build contract, other designers, etc.)

I have a questionnaire that we just used. I got all of the information from a book by Susan Lang. I'd be moe than happy to send you the questionnaire by email. Every builder I sent it to said it was detailed and most potential clients don't ask that many questions. Weeded out a few by using it.

Here is the book...well worth it IMHO. We also used the checklist for the architect interviews. We will be using the room by room lists where applicable. I really feel like we already got our $16 worth.
