urgent help - capital precision owners - countertop issue

My 48" Capital Precision rangetop is going in and the countertops will be templated this Friday, so I need urgent help!

Any Capital Precision owners, please tell me what you did about your installation, particularly of your rangetop!

My cabinet designer designed the cabinetry to permit the rangetop to be installted with the face of the range flush with the face of the drawers underneath and I really like that look. However, then the countertop looks awful where it meets the rangetop's curved, protruding upper edge. My GC wants to address this issue by having my entire rangetop protrude almost 2 inches out from the cabinet face, which I really don't like the look of; it looks like the rangetop was installed after the cabinets were already in, instead of the cabinets being custom made to be built around the rangetop.

Please show me pics of your installed rangetop! Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

That's ridiculous - it was never an issue here. Our cabinets are flush with the range, the curved edge is flush with the countertop edge. Simple.

Here is a pic - I can't even believe that. I would never accept the range sticking out 2 inches.

Hi Julier1234! I wondered if you were still around and would see this!

Your rangetop looks beautiful, although I know my GC never would have let the top of the range be below the top of the countertop. But you have concrete countertops, and that's not combustible, right?

So, are you still loving your Capital range? Their customer service has been fantastic for me, so far! The only thing they haven't been able to help with so far is getting me pictures of installed rangetops. (I told them I'd send them mine once it's all installed, so they can have one to show future GW customers!)

Thanks so much for your feedback and photo!

Hi Smarge - yep I check back every once in a while. Glad I saw your post. We do have concrete - it's not an issue at all. I even had Capital come out to check it out and it was fine. Their customer service has been wonderful so far.

I think my point is not that it be below the countertop smarge - it's the fact that the countertop edge extends out past the cabinet to be flush with the curvy portion. Am I explaining myself? Even if the curvy portion were to come up to the top of the countertop, it would still be flush with the countertop *edge*. You know - come to think of that - that was a total accident. I don't remember ever specifying that as a request, but maybe my KD and cabinet guy put their heads together on that one. Let me know if you need a different pic.

Yes, I love my range. I hope you do too!

Here's another Precision. Mine's flush too (the picture is a little small b/c of some editing so you can't see it as well as Julie's) but the end result is the same. Ditto everything she said.

Actually, I take that back. It looks like Julie's counters behind the range are a little recessed. On mine, the range extends out only as far back as the door. It looks like it was intended this way. It really looks fine and I never even noticed it. If you want, I'll take a better picture.

thanks to you both! This is exactly the look I'm hoping for with my rangetop (not a full range). Apparently the drawings Capital provides show that that rangetop has to drop in, with a "lip" of some sort sitting on top of the countertop. However, that drawing contradicts another drawing that shows the SS top of the rangetop perfectly flush with the top of the countertop. When it sits on this lip, it ends up making the place where the countertop edge meets the rangetop's bullsnose look bad and poorly planned.

My GC was on the phone with Capital for a LONG time going over it last night. And Capital could only send me two pictures showing full range installations that look similar to coleen's above.

It seems this may be a small engineering snafu that Capital needs to work the kinks out of. I'll post what we do for future Capital rangetop planners.

This issue has pushed our template date out to next Thursday; I really want to get this right.

(Meanwhile, would just love to see a rangetop owner's installation pics!)

Oh my gosh - I can't believe I forgot about one of the biggest traumas of the remodel. The reason the range is recessed is because the dishwasher door would not clear the handle of the oven door! It was a KD error since she did the drawings. As everyone stood around talking about how we would have to move the DW (no way was I going to have it anywhere else), I came up with the brilliantly expensive idea of pulling out the range and having the range recessed into that wall. I don't even want to think about those days now. The $$$$ for that error (gulp). Now, I do think it looks nice - more interesting than having the wall go straight across.

    Thanks for the memories Coleen...

Somehow my GC and KD worked out a solution that they say will result in my having a flush front and ALMOST flush to countertop solution. Not sure how that will work out, but thanks to you two, I kept pushing for what I really wanted.

Countertop templating was done yesterday. I'll post photos when they're in. (So, how do you post photos, anyway? Do I have to load some pictures to a website like Snapfish? And then what?)

I am so glad you worked it out! Let us know when you get everything in. I use photobucket. Followed directions from this site on how to post. If I could figure it out (barely), I'm sure you can ;-).
