Beginning my Valentine decorating and my latest find...

Since we use the island in the kitchen for pretty much everything from crafts to homework to eating breakfast, I kept the decorations simple. That way there isn't much to move if the children need the space.

Although not necessarily decorated for Valentine's Day, I wanted to show ya'll my tea set. I've wanted one for ages, but could never seem to find one in my budget that had all the different pieces. I found this one in an antique shop and it looked horrible. It was so badly tarnished, it was totally black. I honestly didn't know if it would clean up enough to look halfway decent. The owner of the shop told me I could have it for half price since it looked so bad. Of course when she said those magic words "half off", I snapped it up. I'm thinking she just didn't want to take the time to polish it. I wish I had taken photos of it before polishing so ya'll could see just how bad it was. The set is by no means perfect, but I love it.

I Love everything Dream, but that buffet is awesome!! The tea set is so lovely. 1/2 price just makes it sweeter. The way you have everything set uo on the buffet is simply beautiful.

Your kitchen island looks so festive. I bet the kids just love it..You've got all the right elements for them not to.
I love your cloche with the darling angels..they look so sweet...and mentioning sweet..How do you keep that candy jar filled?? That would be the first thing to get attacked!! I love your floral centerpiece as well. Those tiny roses in the basket are very pretty.

Wonderful deal on your tea set, and I'm so glad you finally found one. I love how you did the basket centerpiece. And I've saved your jar and cloche photos for our new album.

DG, I always love to see your decorating--always so soft and pretty and romantic looking. So glad Karen saved your cloche and jar for the album, they look great as does your pretty centerpiece. I'm envious of your pretty tea set. It looks great after all your TLC of polishing it up. I remember how thrilled I was just to find my teapot at a reasonable price. Still need a sugar and creamer. But it's so much nicer when you can find a full matching set.

While your decorations are lovely, I am drooling over your hoosier. I saw one at an antique store while shopping with my dd for her first house and fell in love. Sadly, it was not for sale. Your buffet is amazing also. I am hoping to get rid of my monster china cabinet from the 70's, which is too large for the room and replace it with something like yours. Everything is beautiful : )

Ditto!! Very pretty! I just love the little angels, and the flowers are soo pretty.
What a steal on the tea set it shined up real nice. And that's a beautiful piece of furniture as well!!

Thank you everyone! Before finding this place, I never really decorated for any holiday except Christmas. Ya'll have inspired me! Now if I could just find some more hiding places for the new stuff that somehow finds it's way home with me. My husband says that UPS and Fed Ex have their GPS coordinates set by the location of my house. LOL!

Jane, I've discovered the trick for the candy. I just tell my family that they can eat all of it that they want and they don't touch it! But if I tell them "hands off" until after the holiday, they're constantly sneaking behind my back taking candy.

Luvs, have you looked on ebay for a matching sugar and creamer for your teapot?

Robins, I'm hoping to one day get rid of the hoosier. I live in an older home and that side of the kitchen has no cabinets. The house originally belonged to my husband's grandmother and she had her dining table sitting where I have the island. On the wall where I have the hoosier is where she had her china cabinet so that's why no cabinets. I've been not so subtly hinting to my husband that it's way past time to remodel the kitchen and put cabinets all around the room. I think he's ignoring me.

DG, I don't really do online ordering, usually like to see it IRL. But I do look sometimes and might take the plunge if I found something I just had to have! LOL Besides, it gives me things to look for while treasure hunting. ;o)

Someday when you have time, I'd love to see a closeup of your beautiful plates and cups/saucers. They look really pretty in your top picture. I grew up in old farm houses without built in cabinets. My folks and grandparents and even one of my sisters had the hoosier type cabinets. My sister still has her's, but not sure who got the other two. I loved the rollup section and the flour bin that tilted out! ;o)

Dream, thanks for sharing your Valentine decor pics. It is fun to see how others "do up" their homes for this holiday. I really like the pic of the roses/candle in basket - once again, I see pink & red together in a way that "works". I have to get over my problem with that....
Love your silver tea set - good for you, seeing the beauty that would be uncovered with a bit of elbow grease!
