where did you get your entry door?

We are currently building a home and I'm having trouble finding a company to order an entry door from. We want a craftsman style with prairie grids and I can't find anyone with that selection. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. I would love to know where everyone ordered there door from so that I can try some of them. TIA

We went through a entry door replacement last spring. We spend 4-6 months doing research. We went with Pella, as we determined we wanted a fiberglass door. With Pella, you can choose your color, wood grain, glass, and decoration. I wanted iron grate not integrated but could swing open, and price. Pella won out hands down.
Pella makes a fiberglass craftsman but without grids. They do have a wood one with grids. We ordered ours through Lowes. We did order the clad moulding trim but wish we didn't. It was not wide enough (only one width) to cover the gap from existing door. Trimmed it out in wood and Lowe's color matched the pre-hung clad frame perfectly. We hired an independant door installer rather than use Lowes.
I am still in love with my door.

    After:

Even though the rest of the house has white windows, I am considering painting the outside of the transom window the same color as cladding/trim, although the grids inside the glass would be white. I did this with my backyard patio doors and it looks great.
    Good Luck

zookeeper93...thank you so much for your help. I love your door. I think painting the trim on the transom to match the door trim would look great. It would make the entry area look like a custom unit. I want a fiberglass door also because I just can't be sure we can maintain a wood door. We are very busy like most people and I think fiberglass is better for us. Thanks again!

I ended up getting mine through HD.(Builder installed) The company is Main Door.(Solid Rustic Collection) I priced a similar door through my builder(Jeldwen). It was 4X the price. (I actually liked the scroll work better on the one I got)

I just flipped through the Rustic Collection info. They have a couple of craftsman styles but they are solid doors with craftsman glass sidelights. But, this isn't their only collection.

You can order them prefinished or unfinished(mine is unfinished-wasn't sure prefinished color would look right)

we have a Thermatru fiberglass door with woodgrain that looks just like wood (without the upkeep!). They have lots of options in the craftsman look.

I'm also looking for what you're describing! I've looked at Eto doors, which has one choice in a fiberglass craftsman, but their price is pretty good. I think my problem was that I need 8' doors instead of 6'8".

Thanks for the compliment and the concurrance with my thought on painting the window trim.
I love wood doors and DIY projects. We are a very busy family and that was just not a project I wanted to tackle. Several houses in our neighborhood have wood doors. Only 2 left that are stained, and they look aweful, even after refinishing 2 years ago. Both get a lot of south winter sun. The others have taken to painting theirs. Our fiberglass also gets southern winter sun but not as long as our neighbors, due to the angle of our house.

MAI- They have a craftsman style door -- think their craftsman is an 8'. It's a wood door, though.

I was looking at stained doors trying to figure out what color I want on my door. I came across these and remembered your post.

Anyone know where to get an oversized door. We're looking for a door that is 42" wide. Seems like they are all 36".

Have a look at Simpson doors. Depending on the door, they can make just about any height or width, thousands of styles.

We went with Clopay entry doors - also fiberglass with wood-like stain and grain.

So far that was my toughest decision of this process as we really needed entry doors to match the garage doors. They aren't in yet, though...

    Hi Mairin,
Sorry but I need to ask Mairin a question,
I'm looking to buy the same exactly door style that you have in Thermathru but the full sidelights only come in clear and some texture glass. What kind of sidelights do you have? if clear, how is the privacy? also, could you please let me know the color of your stain? Thanks

I ended up with a fiberglass Therma Tru door. They sold it at either Home Depot or Lowes (I cant remember which) but I ended up getting it at my local lumber supplier. I used them for all of my lumber so they gave me a good discount and free shipping. If there were problems they were great about picking things up for free and returning so it was worth the bit more money then the Lowes/Home Depot price. I went with an unfinished fiberglass and painted it myself. When it showed up unfinished I couldnt imagine how the end product could look like real wood. I painted it with a gel stain and I was really happy at how it did look so close to real wood to me. I chose fiberglass over wood because of the lower maintenance costs. I chose unfinished because I wanted a dark wood but in some of the pictures the mahogany looked a bit too dark and I was worried when it showed up it would be too dark. I also wanted three panels in the bottem section to match the 3 windows above and the other brand I almost got had 2 panels below. This brand also only had the door finsihed. I think this was a Masonite door. If it werent for the style differenes and capability of getting it unfinished with Therma Tru I might have chosen Masonite. Hope this helps. Im going to try to attach a picture as it probably would look nice on a craftsman style house.

In the above message, I mixed up Therma Tru with Masonite. So where I said Masonite, replace it with Therma Tru and vice versa. I ended up with the Masonite door in the link below. Sorry for the mix up and hope this helps!

This is an old post, but I'm also looking for a craftsman door with prairie grilles. If anyone else found one, can you please post? I found one - haven't priced it yet, but it looks very pretty.
