some bunnies and other things (9 pics)

Since DH didn't need my help today with the fencing I played a bit in my house and finally took pics. Some of these I posted before but I've tweaked and added things.

This is the sideboard in our breakfast area. We moved it from the kitchen end and I haven't hung anything over it yet so the wall is blank which doesn't happen often in my house! I layered old runners and doilies. Hand crocheted and machine crocheted but some have holes so the layering 'hides' that. Sort of. ;-D

Painted bunnies I rescued from a yard sale! Couldn't resist them as I can't paint a stroke.

Bad hare day bunny - I posted this guy before. I've collected various decorations by this potter, most go on our Christmas tree.

Cast iron bunnies.

Peter Rabbit. I posted this covered pedestal cake plate before and haven't changed it.

This Beswick pitcher vase belonged to DH's DGM and I think those are hares on it as their ears are long. It's probably vintage 30's altho there are lots of Beswick pottery things around and it's hard to say. She had it for years altho I don't know if she brought it from England or bot it in Canada.

This is the sideboard in our great room. The hand crocheted runner is old, I've had it for so long I don't remember where it came from, must have been my DM's or DH's Gran's. Not the best pic but the ones I took at an angle have crooked candles! Gotta learn how to take better pics.

The apothecary jar holds a real bird's nest that DH found when he was cleaning up outside recently. It must have fallen from a tree. I've never had a real nest before so was thrilled. I never even look for them as don't want to disturb nests the birds may return to. I put a few glass eggs in it. The 2 crystal baskets and the white one were yard sale finds.

The white basket holds some vintage glass pulls, also YSF.

Thanks for looking.

Pretty, pretty, pretty. I LOVE that Beswick pitcher, its a wonderful old piece. WOW. And the cast iron bunnies are really neat. Iron, or stone, bunnies are ones that I especially like. And of course harder to find.

LG, don't know that anything needed tweaked but it all sure looks great now.

I love the fact that you used a real nest in your jar and added some eggs to it. Love all your crystal, the baskets and the crystal knobs in the white basket. The runner under all the decorations looks nice.

The green pitcher and cast iron bunnies go so well together. All your doilles look great and so nice you use them. I'm just loving the fact that I'm ready to get all mine out and start using them again.

The vintage pitcher is just wonderful, the colors are great and so nice that it is a family heirloom. That crystal with those blue candles is lovely, the blue really makes it Springy. And those doilies really speak to me, I have a cedar chest full. I hope DH gets the fence done, so you can play in the house more.

How blessed you are to have inherited such beautiful pieces, Luckygal! Love your vintage pitcher and your cast iron bunnies. The greens with the pinks on the crocheted doilies are so pretty!

Thanks Karen, Punk, Syble, and Lynn for the nice comments.

I know I am fortunate to have as many family 'heirlooms' as I do considering that few in my family were collectors. I wouldn't have very many home decor accessories at all if I hadn't started yard-saling! The green bunnies are the made in C. faux antiqued cast iron things that I try not to buy too often but couldn't resist when I saw them in one of those cute little gift shops. I also have a little bird that's similar. Have to occasionally buy new things as I love shopping especially when we travel.

I had too many things on my sideboard when I posted the covered cake server before. I'm trying to keep things less cluttered altho that seems to be my challenge lately. I should limit myself to 5 things in a vignette, altho I don't think that's realistic for me. More likely to be 15! ;-D

I hope others will use their doilies. There are so many things one can do with them. I'm thinking of making a doily bowl once I get my things organized.

Ok, LG, I'm clueless here...now why should you limit yourself to 5 things in a vignette? Gosh, didn't Jim, or Judith, teach you better than that. LOL.

I'm loving the fact that you have a real nest--and such a cute one--to decorate with! Lots of pretties on display, isn't it nice to have them out where you can enjoy them? I still use doilies allot, have one on my kitchen table and guest room dresser now! I'm now of a "certain age" where it seems more important to use the things I've collected and treasured for so long! Luvs

My apologies for not getting back to this thread sooner - sometimes real life takes over.

LOL Karen, there are times I get carried away and really do put too many things in a vignette. Trying to refine things more altho that "more-is-more" thing is so tempting.

Thanks Luvs, I've always used family and other vintage things but never really collected until recently. It makes an arrangement more interesting to me when things have sentimental feelings attached so I often deliberately try to add such things. I'm definitely of a "certain age"! LOL

Boy, luckygal, those cast iron bunnies & your heirloom pitcher are "picture perfect" tog! Very lovely! And I also love to hear any history of pcs!

The bird's nest found a new home...great! Looks so home-y with the crystal eggs! Also love the idea of the glass pulls in the basket...EVERYTHING looks Spring-y! (crocheted doilies = elegance in vignettes!) TFS! Jeanne S.
