My recent finds Part 2

My other finds from Saturday are all silver treasures. I love silver and find it hard to resist when it's so inexpensive.

I don't yet have a pic of the wooden chest this silver flatware came in as it's scratched and needs some work (Restor-A-Finish) on the outside altho the inside looks to be in very good condition. The chest had a sign saying $10. and I've been looking for a chest to hold another larger set of silver I have. However the chest was full of flatware pieces so I asked if that was included and the answer was 'yes'. I almost couldn't believe it. There were 2 sets of silver flatware, serving pieces, as well as a bunch of stainless which are for crafts. I spent hours polishing it!

This is 1847 Rogers silver plated flatware pattern Daffodil, set of 6 place settings and some serving pieces, total of 29 pieces. That serving spoon at the top of the pic is known as a tomato server and is in pristine condition - it's listed for $125.00 on one site. I'm planning to use it - I've never had a tomato server! The rest of the set is used but still in good condition. Please excuse the photography, I couldn't seem to get a better pic.

This is 1881 Rogers pattern Flirtation, set of 4 place settings plus 6 demitasse spoons, total of 26 pieces. The salad forks were still in store packaging and unused and the tablespoons don't look as if they've been used either.

Some miscellaneous pieces all of which are some type of silver, some old, some not so old.

This cream and sugar with tray was $2. at another sale. I'll probably use the tray on my dresser or in tablescapes. Good thing you can't see the photographer more clearly, I had been out gardening, then cleaning silver, and was not 'pic ready'! ;-D

Silver is one of my favorite things and oooo did you hit the jackpot.
I loooove the daffodil set and the other one is very very nice as well. AMAZING! bargains (both of them).
The cream/sugar with the tray is perfect as well.
So glad you're enjoying some time in the dirt. None of that here as all we have is mud and rain forecast for all week to boot. Blech!

Those are some beautiful pieces of silver...I'm so jealous!!
You can also use the tomato server for sliced canned cranberry sauce. I don't like the stuff, but DSD does and I have it for her every holiday.
On Saturday, I used the tomato servers for little sandwiches and they worked beautifully as well!
    Good for you girl!!

I love it when my GW buddies find such great deals, it's almost as good as when I find them myself. That daffodil pattern is lovely. I have to admit, I pass up a lot of silver these days, because I don't like to polish what I already have.

MM, we're redoing and enlarging our already large garden so I'll be playing in the dirt *a lot*. Trying not to do too much each day or I'll be *toast*. Weather here isn't bad altho not overly warm. So dry I'm having to start to water.

Jay, good idea to use the tomato server for other things. It's really cute with a daffodil cut out. I only like the homemade cranberry sauce altho there are times we can't get the real berries here so have to use the canned. :-(

Frou, I'm also at the point of ignoring a lot of silver things. At least being a lot more selective in what I buy. I really bot this for the chest and didn't look closely at what was inside. I was quite surprised when I got home and took it all out. I now have enough sets for each Grandchild altho I'm not sure if they will care for old things. Even my own children don't use the silver we've given them much. Probably no one will even know how to wash dishes by hand by the time our Grands are adults! LOL

Here's the silver chest that was the reason for the purchase. It looked horrid, dusty and scratched badly. I just cleaned it and used Restor-A-Finish so it's now reasonably presentable.

    Inside...

I'm a bit of a germ freak so I've vacuumed it thoroughly inside and will use some essential oils to disinfect. Don't think it's worth the bother to reline. Easier to wash the cutlery before use.

I can't believe what great condition the silver is in. And the chest is great. They're very expensive if you buy them new. Yours is in especially good condition inside - often times the felt is worn away.

Don't fret about the grandcildren loving the silver (and all your other goodies). Don't forget, they will probably all have spouses someday. Never can tell who will find a spouse that adores old things. My son was never much interested in things, but his wife is crazy about vintage things - so now he is too. Hold on to your things. They will go to good homes.

WOW, luckygal, you struck silver!!! All of this is very, very nice! I've never heard of a tomato serving spoon (am learning so much here)...so that is a wonderful pc!

Your chest looks like the one I inherited from Mom. Mom drew names for her 3 sets of silverware & I got lucky & got a favorite!

Can't believe you got all these for 10 bucks! WOW! Lots of silverware changes in future 'scapes! TFS! Jeanne S.

LG, we CAN see you in the creamer and sugar bowl--but don't worry, you look just fine! ;o)

Your silver all polished up so beautifully, and that's a neat storage piece for it too. Nice that it all found a good home where it will be loved and appreciated again.

Well now I know 'where' your Luckygal name came from!!
What amazing, and beautiful, finds. Even tho I am allergic to polishing silver, LOL, its sure beautiful to look at.
That tomato server sounds like quite a collectible piece if you saw it for $125 on a site. WOW.

I'm in awe of your haul.

OA, thanks for the encouraging comments re: my treasures going to good homes. I've never really been concerned about my things when I am no longer here to worry about them. It's just stuff! I do hope some of the Grands will like old treasures tho as IMO they are more special than new stuff.

Jeanne, I had never heard of a tomato spoon either and this one has such a cute cut out daffodil. If you are interested in seeing lots of silver it's on the link below. So many patterns and types of serving pieces. Nice you got your Mom's silver. I got my Mom's also but gave it away to one of my kids as at one time I actually thot one set of silver was enough and I have my wedding silver. That was before yard saling. ;-D

Thanks Luvs, hope I don't look too fat in the pic, I'm trying not to gain anymore! LOL It was a good thing I had just bot a new pot of silver polish as I used about half of it with these finds.

Karen, there are lots of yard sales where I don't find anything, even days I don't find a thing altho then DH may find something. We call it 'our little Saturday drive in the country' to rationalize the gas expense if we don't find anything! LOL I'll post the link to the site that shows the prices - altho I do wonder who pays some of these amounts. This site shows lots of silver patterns. I know I have been very fortunate in my silver 'finds' as I see them on Craigslist for high prices.

Here is a link that might be useful: Daffodil pattern

Well, I looked at both of your posts & you sure pulled in a huge haul this past weekend. Look out, you'll need even more storage space as the summer is just beginning & the sales go on & on for months!!!

Great finds, I loved that little white & blue teapot, even though the spout had a chip, turn it away on a tablescape & no one will know!!!

Beautiful! That was an unbelievable buy..Enjoy it..And the sugar and creamer are lovely too!
    I don't worry what will happen to my things..I won't know! :)

Yachter, I may have to force myself to go to the bother of having a sale myself. Haven't done so for 2 years so editing is in order. It's just so much extra work to have a sale and I occasionally donate things I no longer care as much for to our local charity thrift store which is much easier.

    Kathleen, exactly how I think.

I'm blown away by your great silver finds, Lucky! I've been looking in the wrong places, it seems, for a good set of old silver flatware. The chest you found is wonderful, too! I haven't seen many for sale in that good of shape.

I'm a little late getting in on this post, but all I can say is WOOHOO for you! What a deal! Love the silver patterns and all of the pieces! And the silverware chest is just wonderful...perfect inside and all for 10 bucks! AMAZING!

Luckygal, so happy for you and your new silver and chest. I agree it would be easier to just rewash before using than reline. This way the logo will remain on the velvet too.

I've never been lucky enough to come across a great buy like this. It's all so beautiful.

It's very odd but there have been a lot of silver items at yard sales in this area and at very low prices. There are other things such as nice antique furniture that I never see and not a lot of good dishes either. I'm actually hoping to *not* find too much more silver as it's hard to resist at cheap prices! I do hope to find another silver chest without the silver.
