NO medicine cabinet in master bathroom?

I'm toying with the idea of not having a medicine cabinet installed in our new master bath. The vanity has good storage space as will a tiered storage unit going on the opposite wall. I've always had medicine cabinets so I'm wondering if I'm crazy for not having one put in. Thoughts?

Have lived in 6 houses and none have ever had medicine cabinets in any bathroom. We've never missed them! Have always had large vanities with storage.

The medicines I need don't have to be taken/applied in the BR, but if u do, then u need one. :)

We don't have a medicine cabinet in our new MB, and our pre-reno MB didn't have one either. In fact our two kids' bathrooms don't have them. We like drawer storage in the vanity. (Also we have a large storage cabinet in the MB.) I think medicine cabinets are useful when you need the additional storage but certainly not necessary when you have plenty of other storage.

My masterbath doesn't have a medicine cabinet and I don't miss it at all. I do have a large vanity with lots of storage and a small linen closet, no need for a medicine cabinet. As a matter of fact most of my homes have not had medicine cabinets in the master bath and haven't missed it in those homes either.

completely unnecessary in my opinion. our last house didn't have one and none in our current plans. we have a 10' vanity so i doubt i'll be pining for space. ; P

I have always had medicine cabinets, but really limited in what you can put in them since they are so shallow. I prefer vanity storage. I'll bet you won't miss it.

Yay for the Bathrooms Forum. I can now continue confidently with my decision to have no medicine cabinet! :-)

I do not have a medicine cabinet now and have not had one in the last 2 houses. However, I'm having one installed when I remodel. DH takes 3 or 4 pills a day and it will be easier for him to find them if the bottles are standing in a neat little row in front of his face instead of chunked into a drawer willy-nilly.

The medicine cabinet will be custom built with this mirror as the front.

I'm hopeful that it can be totally recessed.

I think you can never have too much storage. I put lots of things in the medicine cabinets, from Q-Tips, eau de cologne, toothpaste, etc. I just redid my master with a 92" custom vanity and splurged with two Robern Candre medicine cabinets along with two pairs of Robern Candre wall sconces. They look incredible.

help, we are redoing our master bath. We'll have a 60" double sink vanity. I can't decide whether or not to install medicine cabinets. We'll have 3 or 6 drawers and not much other storage (a rack over the toilet for towels) My question is where do you all with mc's put things like toothpaste and brushes, shaving cream etc. Does that stuff really end up in the drawers or more likely on the vanity top which I'm hoping to avoid..

I think medicine cabs are great. I think the shallow presentation is actually a good thing as you do not have to dig to find anything. Why not have more storage than less? No one ever complains that they have not enough stuff to fit their storage, lol.. ..

BTW - how funny that some of the male posters think they are for "medicine". I think they are primarily for makeup, hairspray and first aid supplies.
Medicine should not be stored in a damp hot environment, so we keep ours in an upper cab in the kitchen away from the hot cooking area (and from little hands).
