Cleaning a Black Stove Top Oven?? What to use?

Hiya,

I purchased recently a black traditional element stove which is the first black appliance I have owned.

I can't seem to get my stove top (not glass - porcelain)looking good. I find with the black it looks streaky, smudgy etc etc.

I am wondering what you use on your porcelain black stove top to make it nice and clean without that filmy smears etc etc.

I love the black but the white was SO much easier to make it look spotless.

Thanks for any product to method tips!

I recently recommended a ceramic cooktop cleaner, brand name Whink, that I find extremely easy to polish to a no-streak gloss. It says it's good for procelain, too, so it might be worth a shot.

You're absolutely right about what color is easiest to take care of, which is why I always recommend white when people as that question. I also have black appliances right now and in my experience, what matters is what you do last. Clean with whatever you want to (soapy water, 409, doesn't matter), remove most of the soap/cleaner with a freshly rinsed rag and then (this is the key), follow john's advice and wipe with a clean cotton towel. The key word is "clean". This means not a kitchen towel you have laying around (no matter how clean you think it is, it will have picked up small amounts of grease from use) but a dry towel that hasn't been used for anything else since it was last laundered.

Microfiber, microfiber, microfiber! They are a gift from god. I usually use ceramabrite (with these little yellow pads they sell) and then wipe with a wet cloth, followed by a dry microfiber cloth. Comes out great, no streaks.

"Microfiber, microfiber, microbiber", as posted above.

I have a glass - top and often use Ms. Myer's brand cleanser and soft scrubbie. It doesn't scratch at all, and comes out like "out of the box" clean. I use a wet, then dampened microfiber to get rid of any residue, and then use dry microfiber to dry. What a pretty finish! A good quality microfiber will do that even with plain water, or even dry if the surface isn't too messy.

We have a Wolf range with the black burner pans. If I'm just spraying and wiping the tops (e.g if they're "dusty" from not seeing much use because we've been grilling a lot or bringing food in, or just lightly "schmutzy"), I use Perfect Kitchen (blue bottle, from BB&B) which was recommended by someone at the Wolf/SZ showroom. It is the only thing I've found so far that can clean without leaving streaks and smears. I find I get better results using it with a paper towels, though sometimes I'll use a microfiber if it's a clean one, and bone dry.

For a more thorough or more necessary full cleaning, I remove my pans and wash them in the sink. If your top isn't removable, you can wash it in place, it's just more of a pain to rinse/remove residue. I usually squirt a little dishsoap on a blue scrub sponge (Palmolive is what we use) and sprinkle some Barkeeper's Friend (BKF) on the pans or on the sponge. Don't use the green scrubbies unless they were recommended by your stove manufacturer as those might scratch the enamel/porcelain. For stubborn areas and burnt or baked in grease spots (or if I've gone way too long between cleanings!), I spray the pans with Dawn Power Dissolver Gel, and let them sit for 15 minutes or so, and then scrub/rinse.

I dry the pans with a dishtowel (Ritz-flemish Wonder towels are great and still dry things even when pretty damp) and I'm good to go 'til the next time!

How I clean my black stove...
    Simple.
ZEP foaming glass cleaner, You can buy this in Home Depot.
Black is like a mirror, so you treat is as such, After reading the list of replies, I remembered I bought twenty cans of this stuff in one of their sales, So i went and tried it, The stove took me five minutes to make it look like new again, But it will not remove encrusted food, This is to shine it only without streaks. I used an old towel, One spray and Whoopy.
