Excellent dishware buy at the Salvation Army

I'll often pop off at lunch (if things aren't too nutty at work) to the local thrifts.

Today was a good day.

I found the following--

4 green Depression glass dessert plates

4 green Depression glass saucers

2 Depression tea cups...

For $3.10!!

I like to mix-n-match Depression glass colors and patterns, so this promises to be a lot of fun!

What a fantastic buy! I used to have a good bit of Depression glassware but I sold it. Can't remember why I did that now. I guess I just wasn't into dishes then.

I love the look of different colors and patterns together. I'd love to see photos of your tablesetting.

Good Score, Jenn. Bet you are grinning ear to ear.

I admit, Karen, I absolutely WAS grinning!

Nothing like leaving there with a big bag o' stuff like that.

And I have this idea of using the green Depression as something different around Christmas. So having some extra pieces is really exciting.

DreamGoddess- it's so hard to know what to get rid of sometimes. And sometimes you just can't keep everything.

I'm getting to the point I'm going to have to purge some stuff myself. It's taken me a little while to realize what I like most, so it might be easier to part with some of the other stuff. :-)

That was a fantastic shopping trip, Jenn. Can't wait to see how you put it all to use. I know you always have such great decorating ideas.

Speaking of TS, I was looking for some spoons the last time I was there. Wanted to do the chocolate dipped spoons to go along with a tea cup thank you gift I was putting together. There were tons of knives but no spoons, and only a few forks. I checked at another TS and the same thing. Is somebody buying up all the spoons and forks? What's going on? Anybody else noticed this in your area?

That's really weird about the spoons, Luvs. We do have spoons in our thrifts, though probably fewer than knives and forks. I can certainly pick some up for you and send 'em along, if you like.

I wonder if there's some crafting craze we don't know about that involves spoons???

I think that lots of folks are making the wind chimes, and the forks and spoons ring prettier than the knives.

I know when I made my windchime, I didn't want to use knives because it looked kind of... violent.

It felt like saying "Here's a windchime with lots of dangling knives" would have ruined the spirit of goodwill of the gift. :-)

The spoons do have a nice ring.

I had wondered the same thing if there was a new craze going around using forks and/or spoons? Gosh, Jaybird, I guess the silverware windchimes may be the cause--those are still very popular. Or maybe others wanted to do the chocolate dipped spoons too.

Jenn, thanks for the offer, but I will just keep an eye open for them. Maybe hit a couple stores in a nearby town too. I need to go ahead and get my little gifts I made mailed. Your comment on the "dangling knives" was too funny! I would never have thought of that! LOL

Hey, I bet the knives would make nice hooks if they were bent so the thinner part could be drilled and attached to a wood piece. Has anybody ever seen that done? Oops! That's probably a question for the crafts or T2T forums. Sorry, just thinking "out loud". LOL

    Where are the pictures????

I don't have pics of the green Depression yet (I am still noodling around with it.) I do have some of the silverware windchime though.

That can be viewed on the page here, at the very top and also near the bottom...
