Black Interior Doors
Comments (28)Another question for those of you that have the black interior doors in your home; Have you painted ALL Interior doors black or left some other colors? Our painter agreed to do it in our new construction home for a reasonable price so we're giving it the go ahead, but I can't decide if we should do the closet doors as well?? The majority of the windows in our home will face North/South and basement won't get much natural lighting except for two drop egress windows we're having put in. I've seen many comments that say the lighting is very important as to not make the home feel too dark with black doors. Thoughts?...See MorePros and cons of painted stair treads?
Comments (60)Eliot Osorio: We have the same setup on our basement stairs. What you are suggesting is what we want to do. Have you done it and how did it turn out? We've told our basement remodeler not to carpet the stairs since I don't like carpeted basement stairs and want it to look more like our very nice staircase upstairs. Although the treads and risers are now painted gray, I want to make the risers white and the treads very dark brown after we fill in the dings and chips with wood putty. We currently have more than 1/2" gaps at each end of the 1" treads. Can we simply add a 1/2" by 8" board for a skirt or should we replace the treads with unfinished wood treads from the big box store (they're 3/4" pine)? A handyman at the store told me to make sure to buy the non-skid tape strips to put on the end of whatever treads we use to keep us from slipping on them. The other concern we have is with the plywood landing that had a metal nosing that's been long removed. How do we improve that? We'd appreciate any information or ideas....See MorePros/Cons of white interior trim and dark (almost black) trim
Comments (7)The dark trip will make the trims boldly stand out and make everything look boxed in. The white trim typically makes everything blend in. Depends on what you're looking for in your decor. https://www.etsy.com/shop/katshoa...See MorePros and cons on hanging TV over the firep!ace
Comments (131)Here's something I found on Amazon called Mantelmount. You can pull it down to eye level while watching TV, and pull it back up when you want to light a fire in the fireplace. It's a bit pricey, but worth it if you're concerned about neck strain. Our kitchen, dining room and living room all flow together like one large room. I'm in the process of remodeling (in the design stages right now) to add an island with a sink so I'll be facing the living room while I'm cleaning up the kitchen. I'll be able to watch TV, see the fireplace, look out the picture window, or a combination of all. I currently do not have a TV over the fireplace, but plan to add one. Our home is a gathering place for grandchildren, family, and friends. This large room will be perfect for playing interactive games with the grandchildren, and watching ballgames with friends. I personally think there's no right or wrong way, it's whatever suits your taste and lifestyle....See Moresoutherncanuck
