Connecting DSL to Ethernet Home Network??

I installed a DSL package last night: filter and modem. When I connect the DSL modem's Ethernet RJ45 directly into my computer NIC input, the DSL connection works.

However, when I move the modem's Ethernet connection to my existing router (I think it is a router) modem input and connect my computer's NIC to one of the Ethernet ports on this router my computer can not find the modem/DSL. The DSL modem has a light indicating it is "happy" with the Ethernet connection to the router.

Any advice on how to make use of the router modem connection to provide access to the DSL moden (from all computers on the home network) will be appreciated.

Your DSL modem most likely is a Router too. You may want to put it, the router/modem, into bridge mode. Then it should work.

Might visit www.dslReports.com/forums/all and if there is a specific forum for your isp look through it and probably find the scoop to hook up your router.

    mikie,
Thanks, I'll take a look at the fourms you sent. The modem could be a "hub", it does connect the Internet (via DSL) to the Ethernet, but that's it, there are no other posts. My router has 4 Ethernet channels one 802.11 WiFi channel and a "modem" channel/input. I'll look to see if I can find anything on "bridge mode", that's new to me.

While typing I noticed my manual for my router on the floor, must have been looking at in in the past year (have a hard time putting things away). I shows doing exactly what I wanted, but does seem to suggest a power/down/up on the route (Microsoft MN-700 Wireless Base Station), I'll try that before going to the web for more help. The unit also has a setup CD, I need too look further into that too. I had the unit working as a "hub" to interconnect three computers in the house, and it worked. I don't remember if I ever ran the setup CD.
