Bathrooms that aren't beige or carrara?

Hi,

We are remodeling our bathroom and while the choices of tile out there in showrooms is dizzy making, many bathrooms that I've actually seen pictures of are very neutral beige/brown or carrara marble. These are lovely looks, but I'm just wondering what are the alternatives?

If you have done a bathroom that is something other than these, would you post a picture please? Nothing against beige or carrara; just wanting to consider different possibilities!

Thanks.

    Here are a few:

    Red tumbled marble:

Light blue ceramic with blue pearl dots:

    Linen and light grey ceramic:

I forget the name of the field marble-- it's also a linen color, and the accent is empress green marble:

forest green ceramic with brown accent:

    bordeaux marble:

    medium brown with tan accents:

emperador marble with santa cecilia granite accents in the bathroom, and dark olive ceramic with grey/brown accents in the shower (bench top is ubatuba):

    white ceramic with black accents:

Bill, is that "light blue ceramic" really the true color? Are the walls purple??

The tile is pretty close to true. That was taken back when I was using a 35 mm film camera to take my pics, and I used a polaroid filter. The walls were actually about the same color as the tile, maybe just a shade darker.

You wanna see blue with purple walls? I held back on these pics because it really didn't strike me as all that impressive a color combination.

Slate blue tile with white accent and "mauve" walls:

We did our downstairs bath in blue & white beadboard, with black & white subway tiles. Here's a photo from before the beadboard was added:

And here are 2 photos once the beadboard was added. It will be painted white, but we're not there yet!

    Cheers!

Ah...well the ones just above I can imagine, but that acid-blue/purple room--guess it takes a special kind of homeowner :) Great work, though :)

Hi Giacomo, will you please tell me what software you use for your design renderings? Thanks

    hi snooper,
I use mac apple with form-z, vector works, art-lanits, but I'm a beginner.

    Thanks all!!!

Giacomo, I love the crispness of the white with a colourful trim. What kind of white tiles are those?

Bill, those are some interesting combinations. And if that's your work, it's awesome! I like the 3 row mosaic border look in the shower.

Heather, that's a nice classic look you have in your bathroom and it'll look really good with your beadboard. Looks like you are taking on a whole house building project - you brave one.

I'm finding I'm drawn to the clean look of white, but is that asking for trouble down the line in that it won't stay nice and clean (or at least the grout won't)?

We did white but with grey grout (as suggested by many on this forum) to avoid the cleaning issues.

Not done yet, but this gives an idea.

Thank you also Budge. I like the very classic look you've created.

    hi Tartahabit

the tiles are from Italy called "ceramiche f.lli Colla"

Thank you for these contributions. White and blue is such a fresh looking combination in the bathroom ....

Pamghatten, your bathroom looks like a very similar configuration to our planned one.

What brand is your shower door? It's not easy to find one with such minimal framing. Very nice.

    Thanks.

tartanhabit - Thanks, love my new bath, took out the old disgusting tub and threw it away!

There is no frame at all on the door. The shiny material I see in the picture is actually the clear rubber (?) molding. This was fabricated by a local glass company.

pamghatten--does your shower door slide or open? Also, can you see through that window? Your's is the same configuration we're working with and I'm still trying to figure out what to do about the window.

I used blue glass tiles in my hall bathroom and painted the walls blue and tan.

sjt2900 .. it pulls open into the bathroom. And yes, you can see through the window (that was taken at nite). It overlooks my deck, which overlooks my 20 acres. I live on a small farm, so there's no one around that would be looking in my windows except for some wildlife.

My contractor wanted to put in Glass block windows, but I want a window that opens and don't care for the little plastic opening that most glass block windows have.

Bill, in the pictures labeled "Linen and light gray ceramic", do you know the brand and name of the the 6 x 12 decorative tile on the floor?

    Thanks, Anne

annkarin, your blue bathroom looks very neat and fresh. My hall bathroom is the identical layout. I've been struggling with the decision to make a shower/tub or shower only. I am very curious if you also considered creating a shower, and what determined your decision to do a shower/tub combination?

Did you use 18" countertops? I have have been considering doing the same in an effort to open up a small room. I would be curious to know if you are happy with this depth and smaller sink? Thank you so much

    Hi dontcallmeshirley,
Thanks for the compliment on my blue bathroom. I kept the shower/tub combination because a) that's what was there before and b) I was taking the garden tub out of my master bathroom and enlarging the shower to be a steam shower, so I was down to only 1 tub in the house and felt I needed to keep it.

The countertops are 22" deep and the sinks (Kohler Memoirs) are 18". The depth works ok, not great on the left sink because it's right by the door, but my boys manage ok.

BillVincent, I have a question. I take it you did those bathrooms, very nice work btw, but do you need permission to post the pictures of other peoples bathrooms?
I don't think I'd like to see my bath posted on the internet, and we have a half bath we need to remodel.
Will the tiler assume he can take and post pictures?

I just gotta ask........why in the world would you care if your bathroom pictures were on the internet? I am just curious...No one knows WHOSE pics they are and the entire reason for this forum is gain ideas and ask for help. I so appreciate the photos shared - that is where I have gained many ideas...Now if my tiler shared my pictures with my family photo, phone number and address - ok I wouldn't like that...But a picture of a room? Kind of like being in your interior designer's portfolio...........

White and blue is such a fresh looking combination in the bathroom ....

In that case, here's another one for you. It's got a carrera floor, (honed center with polished border), but the walls are Dal Rittenhouse subways with denim rope trim and the floor stripe, accents, tubdeck and vanity top are blue pearl:

I take it you did those bathrooms, very nice work btw, but do you need permission to post the pictures of other peoples bathrooms?

Quite honestly, I've never had a problem with it from anyone. I've always made it clear to every customer that I do alot on line helping people and showing them examples of what to do and how to do it, and I've yet to run across anyone who responded negatively. However, even before I got on line, I took pics for my portfolio, and the only time I had any kind of a problem was from an architect who saw me taking pictures of a 42 foot starburst design I did at a mall, and he threatened to sue me if I didn't hand him that film right then. I told him it wasn't his design I was taking picures of. It was my workmanship. if he wanted to take me to court, that was his perogative. But he might want to think twice about touching my camera. Nothing ever came of it.

in the pictures labeled "Linen and light gray ceramic", do you know the brand and name of the the 6 x 12 decorative tile on the floor?

Anne, unfortunately, all I can tell you is it came from Dal. I don't even remember what series it was. That was 4 or 5 years ago.

My bathroom, while still neutral, is olive green with tan.

So billvincent, you do ask about using the pictures. Good for you. I wouldn't want my bath or any part of my home displayed online, glad to know that you would respect that.

There isn't a set reason, I object. I view it as an invasion of my privacy. If others are okay with their houses being shown, good for them. Those who aren't should have their wishes respected.

A work in a public building is completely different. You could come back after the building was open and take the pictures
