My new thread Re: system restore does not work

Update: System restore still does not work...not even in safe mode. No need to reply to that comment. Just decided to throw it in.

After 3 days of trying to get into the control panel of my webserver, I accidently found that after I disabled PARENTAL CONTROL, I was able to log into my control panel. However that did not fix my inability to update my website. So, against Nortons warnings, I uninstalled the ADD_ON PACK that is an optional part of NORTON 360. This includes Identity Safe, Auto log-ins, etc; I then was able to connect and update my webpage. So many pages had been altered by me trying to publish for so many times, that the whole site was completely republished. This took 16 hours on dial-up. I sat here ready to reconnect evrytime my ISP disconnected me, so I went to bed in the wee hours of the morning. But I got it done.

I posted my findings because I felt the information might help someone else who may be having the same problem. After all that's what this forum is all about. Right?

I was a little disappointed that no one had any suggestions about trying an alternate browser. I guess my plea got lost. Anyway, no problem. I did not need to try that anyway. I have received far more from this forum than I have given back over the years. Maybe this post will help even it out.

thank you for the feedback it is always good to know this kind of info in case someone searching for a clue to a similar problem may find their answer here.

As to the firefox question, I had missed where you asked how to use it in your other thread, it did kinda get lost.

To use firefox which you have on your pc you just go to the firefox icon on your desktop or find it in your start> all programs list and open it, double click the icon, it will open up the web browser and you use it just like you would IE, just type in where you want to go and it will take you there. Now I would guess if someone installed firefox some time ago and you never used it that it will be an old and out of date version so you probably would need to update it, you can do that by clicking on Tools> Options> then go to the update area and you have the option to choose to update firefox, your add-ons etc. I would say go to Help > about firefox and let us know which version it says you currently have and we can help you more once we know that.
The link below is a good guide.

Its always great to have more than one browser, you can have as many on your machine as you want. Makes it easier to find if you are experiencing problems with different sites whether or not it is a browser problem or something else. You can also look into Opera, Google Chrome and there are others as well

    Thanks for sharing your input.

Since members, including myself, might not remember the content of the original thread I took the liberty of tagging it below.

Perhaps in the future you might consider placing an update on the original thread. When the thread appears at the top of the page members will know there is new information to be viewed. It makes things more informative and complete for members to help and learn.

Thanks DA. Ordinarily I would have done that, but the original thread got jumbled up with sub-headings, which I'm sure was all my fault and it was suggested I open a new thread. I got off on other topics which, in my computer illiterate brain, was all tied in together and I was searching for an answer that would help me get my webpage back online. System Restore would have worked in the beginning if I had been able to do that successfully. This is definitely a Microsoft problem and they need to be working on that, in my humble opinion. Ida
