Can I use wall tile on a floor?

Quit laughing! I know the standard answer is no, but let me throw out mt "what if" and see if the answer is still "NO!"

The tile is ceramic 3/8th thick hand made subways (not really thin stuff)

I purchased them with the help of an idiot tile sales man who sold me enough to do three backsplashes, but since they're handmade for me, I can't return them.

I have a little room off the kitchen that is only 3' tall which we call the "Kitty Motel" It houses a litter box, food, water, etc. Obviously a human can't stand with their weight on it, but on occasion might crawl half way in (unless they're hiding from their spouse and crawl all the way in). I figure since I have the extra tile...maybe I could tile the floor in there which would make for easy clean up and the nicest kitty room in Alaska given the price of the dang tile.

Is this stupid? Will the tile crack later? I am not having our tile installer do it...I'd have fun and diy it VERY CAREFULLY later after we finish this job, but only if it makes sense. I was going to buy tile elsewhere for it but thought maybe I should ask :)

Go ahead...shoot LOL It was just a thought!

Okay-- here's the thing-- it has nothing to do with the thickness of the tile. It's about the hardness of the glaze, and if they're handmade, I can tell you almost positively that the glaze is going to be way too soft for use on the floor. What about using them in your laundry room, like jejvtr?

Darn, well it was a thought :) I thought it was an issue of how strong the tile itself was.

Our laundry rooms are actually laundry closets :) No real area to tile with defined edges. I do have a desk going into our master closet though on one end for a sewing area (the room is 9x15 or so) so maybe a backsplash on that...I'll have to check it with the countertop sample. It would certainly dress up the closet :) And then when I'm sewing I can think about what an idiot I was when I purchased them...heh heh DH would probably enjoy that but we won't share that with him LOL

Maybe someone else's igloo should be chic, too. Sell them on ebay or craigslist.

Igloo- I would go for it ;)
If the room is 3Â tall how wide is it?
Post photo of tile. Maybe the finish (gloss/satin), or color would be fine for your situation. The kitty deserves a little chic igloo too (g)
Do these handmade tiles by any chance have chickens on them? LOL

LOL Pink :oP I also have left over granite and travertine so I'll just use that and then there's the crocodile tiles...I ordered too many of those as well but I've promised one at least to each of the guys working on the job (they're going to make tables) so I guess the kitties don't get croc.

But here's the tile just for giggles :)

Let's see...how big is their room? About 3' tall maybe six long and 3 deep. You should see the chandelier I got for them :) Treschic! (but no chickens for them heh heh)

Bill, email on the way if I can get it out before company shows up...if you don't hear from me before you go to bed on the east coast it will be in the morning :)

Igloo- Love the yellow Ochre color. Your tile would look great in my kitchen. Here is where my doggie eats. His bowls are yellow ochre Chantal bowls ...of course.

HEh heh so you understand my chicken fascination :) And so do your doggies LOL

I was thinking I have this big marble mosaic of a clock I'm not going to use on a wall where I'd considered it...so perhaps the kitties will learn how to tell time :)
