Same song, second verse, plus

HP Media Center XPSP3, FF default browser.

First thing I saw on my pc today was "System fan has failed." F2 for help.

I went through that with your help back in January, had a tech in, and no problem there since.

Then I got a message about isass.exe. I googled to see what it was; found it could be a virus or worm so I ran MBAM, nothing found. Next I did SpywareAntiSpyware, found some tracking cookies. Next SpywareBlaster, no problems there.

I went back to read some more about isass.exe, and found that it could be lsass.exe. Which is LSA Shell Export Version - Its part of Microsoft Windows XP, etc.

I still don't know which it is, or what it is, but could the two (the fan, and isass, or lsass messages,) be connected?

So far I've had no problems checking my mail or KT and here.

I tried to find which fan it is that is causing problems, if any, but those sites don't tell me much except how to open the tower and clean out the dust.

Can some of you clear some of this up for me, please?

TIA

Sue

    Hi Sue,

Then I got a message about isass.exe. are you sure that's how it was spelled on the message you got? Because isass.exe. is a Trojan see link below. What did that message say?

The legit Microsoft file would be lsass.exe, you can see that running in the task manager. See if isass.exe is also running in the task manager and let us know please.

Here is a link that might be useful: System look up

    Hi, Zep.

I don't recall what the message was, I was just interested in running the scans. I'm sure now that it was lsass.exe. and that is in my Task Manager. No isass.exe.

I clicked on your link and will bookmark it for future reference if I need it.

I guess I'll wait to see if I get any more Fan messages, and if so call in a Tech.

    Thanks for your help, always.

    Sue
