Check to see if your flooring manufacturer makes a bullnose stair trim piece. Then you can use your flooring on the stairs.

In general, no. But anything's possible. Normally one would order treads of matching wood made up and installed independently of the floor installation, because although similar, they really are different trades, and with something as code-critical as the staircase, it would pay to use a specialist.

We are doing our prefinished wood floors on our stairs. WE just ordered bullnose for the ends. Our neighbor did this as well and it turned out very pretty!

i just found out that the floors I chose have been discontinued so back to square one. i will try to choose a floor that offers bullnose.

casey, we've got a contractor and architect, so all should be well. it was our builder that told me that the floors i chose didn't offer stair parts

Any stair tread should be one piece of wood regardless of what wood it is made of. There is nothing wrong with stair treads having a different wood or color. What would you do if the first and second floors had a different wood or finish? Just stain to match what you like.
