Boarding school update

In the end, it looks like my dd will be staying at home afterall. The final tally is accepted at two schools, waitlisted at two. The two that accepted her offered aid, but not enough. I've written to one of them (her favorite) to appeal the aid amount, based on tax information that wasn't available to us in January. It is, at best, a long shot. And honestly, I am only doing it so that I can say we tried everything.

Thanks for all your good wishes.

Jo

I received an email from one of the waitlisted schools. It was one we thought she would definitely get in, and had a great shot at the scholarship. I asked them to offer insight as to what my dd could have done differently for a differnt outcome. It really did come down to a numbers game. They had 250 applicants for 16 boarding positions. That means that 93% of the applicants will not be able to go. I am sure they accepted more than 16, but probably not a whole lot more, maybe another 10-12. Add the fact that we needed financial aid, and her chances get smaller. Beacause, in this economy, full pay students have the edge. It is simply a realistic fact.
Oh well, it was quite a journey and my amazing dd is a stronger kid for it.

    Jo,
I hope she's not too disappointed. You, and she, should be VERY proud!!

Jo, I also hope she's not too disappointed.

Here's a thought if she's still really wanting the experience...

Phillip Exeter offers a program open to seniors & younger students who just received a diploma (post-graduate). Supposedly, 15% of their senior class is made up of these students. They take 5 courses during each of the 3 semesters & receive a full Exeter Diploma.

Something like that would give her the opportunity for the prep school experience, the Exeter diploma, & hold the costs to only one year.

Give her a hug from me!

Oh Jo, I'm sorry that your DD will be disappointed, but glad you'll get to "keep" her for a bit longer.

So how long until she can try again? Somehow I'm just sure she will....
