Ebay/Online Appliance purchase of Wolf Appliance

Could those here please share with me, experiences purchasing high end appliances through ebay? I tried searching for existing threads - but could not find one.

I am hoping to buy my appliances online (a Wolf Range in particular) - and want to find out about reputable places to do this.

Any input would be appreciaed.

I bought a Thermador range from Designer Home Surplus in Texas through ebay. The freight shipping was $300 but I still paid half price. I've had some qualms in case something went wrong, but so far Thermador has been very good about little things -- the range showed up without a knob and Thermador immediately sent a free replacement. HTH.

Wolf customer support has been excellent, so that would not be a concern. Make sure the seller is an authorized dealer so your warranty is honored and you make sure you are getting what you think you are -- not something used or stolen. You can verify that with Wolf. Look for good feedback and a proven track record. Know what your options are if you have a problem or if it arrives damaged -- who is responsible?

I purchased a Gaggenau 27" Double Oven and 36" Induction Cooktop off a vendor from EBay. They both arrived as expected and look fine. It is still months away before they can be installed but there is a warranty on both.

I bought a Vent a Hood liner and was not happy. The vender made me arrange my own shipping. When the unit arrived it was smashed. I filed a claim with DHL (the shipping company). After waiting for their inspection and the 30 days they took to make a desicion on the claim they paid me 1/2 of the cost of the hood. I went back to the seller with no luck. Went to Visa and they said I will most likely lose because I was technically the shipper. So my advise is DO NOT arrange your own shipping. By doing so you accept all the liability. The unit was not well packed at all, but the shipper escaped all liability. I will be puchasing all my appliances from a local dealer I have recoarse with.

eBay: I think one thing you have to ensure is that the appliances that you are purchasing are for residential installation vice commercial, and make sure you're code compliant with your area.

online: From CA, we bought all of our appliances tax free via phone order from Lakes Appliances in NY/NJ and got them shipped free to FL where we were remodeling. They were wonderful and came with 5-year warranties and the best prices we could find, probably 20% lower than the local showroom.

c9pilot - do you happen to know what city Lake Appliances is located in. I live in NJ and would love to get a price quote. Did an internet search, but couldn't find anything. Thanks

    malhgold,
    Google is your friend.
I typed in Lakes Appliances and it was the first hit.
    BTW, it's LakeS not Lake.

I should also mention that we made our 50% deposits before the December 2006 price hike. We had read on this forum and others that the price increase was going to be 15% and the Lakes folks acknowledged that we had to place our order by a certain date to guarantee the 2006 prices (no pressure, just factual). They held our appliances in their warehouse until we were ready to ship in April. They sat in our garage until late summer 2007. (Don't let subcontractors see the big "Wolf" and "Sub-Zero" boxes in your garage or their estimates will go way up, double in some cases - but that's another thread.)
Anyway, I think the only reason we were able to get the negotiating power is because we were out-of-state and shipping to out-of-state. Wolf/SZ have weird pricing issues when dealing with walk-in customers, and of course, there's the tax thing.
But, they have great customer service and we did have one problem when we installed the SZ (operator error) and they had a local guy here in FL show up within hours to straighten us out (under warranty).
